Knee feature

Hello, Im new to the community.

I have recently purchased the hvx 202 with an 8 gig p2 card.
Im a very old hat with computers in the multimedia aspect.

I have a question regarding a "feature" in this camera.

What is the knee setting?, looking at a google search it mentions aspects about the light intensity.

Would anyone mind sharing a little more information.

The knee settings work in the high lights of the picture, they give you the possibility to compress the high intensity video signal. You get more details in thieses high lights, they prevent an over-exposition . In HD the full white is 107% ire, after that point you have no more details...
For the HVX, "LOW" starts the compression at 80% ire, "MID" at 90% ire and "HIGH" at 100% ire.
If you refer to negatif-film, the knee settings lower the upper part of the curve without affecting the middle or the law parts.
I hope it helps you. Best, colin.
