Kit lens back from repair - firmware revert

The zoom action on my kit lens was way too stiff (especially in the telephoto range) and the rubber zoom ring had become quite loose (the rubber used by Panasonic apparently doesn't like sweaty hands and swells in the summer). The excellent Panasonic service facility in southern Germany didn't fool around: they simply replaced the VXW1042 lens unit under guarantee. (Curiously, although the entire PCB including the optics was exchanged, the serial number on the rear of the lens remained the same).

When I checked the lens firmware number, it was 1.1 (although I had updated to 1.2 several months ago). To me, that means that the entire unit had the old firmware on it, and they didn't update it on their own, which is a good thing.

On the other hand, if the GH1 BODY needed repair and they simply replaced the entire unit containing the firmware, there's the distinct possibility that the new unit would contain the unhackable firmware version.

That's why it's so vital that Vitaliy Kiselev and his team come up with a way to hack the unhackable firmware version. All of our GH1s are getting older, and some day they're going to have to be repaired. And the repair facilities will often have no other choice than to install new circuit boards with the new unhackable firmware -- even if we politely ask them not to.

So please don't give up, gentlemen. We'll all be grateful in a year or two.

The GH1 will soon be obsolete. The GH2 is on its way and once that one is out Panasonic will be working on the GH3! And of course we all one the latest gear.

John, I assume your reply was meant to be sarcastic.
But with all due respect: what we GH-13 owners need is not sarcasm, but the assurance that our precious GH-13s won't turn into unhackable GH-1s in the event of a repair and the replacement of a circuit board with the unhackable 1.34 firmware.

That's why I think one of Vitaliy's top priorities should be to protect the considerable investment in time and effort he has put into his wonderful hack (and the extensive testing his team and many of us have done) by making firmware version 1.34 hackable as soon as possible.

This will benefit ALL GH-1 amd GH-13 owners -- now, and for some time to come...

I have seen GH2 footage first hand now and I will confidently say the GH1.3 footage beats it. There are still weird issues and mud in forests.

Yes, but you're not sure it was a finished production model are you? So how can you be so confident?
