Kit lens aperture loud clicking noise!

Loud click/whir noise from kit lens whenever I turn the camera on, change modes (M to Vid, etc) and whenever I change aperture. Sounds like a normal aperture click on other lenses....but for the first few weeks the camera changed aperture totally silently. Does not seem to effect functionality and I don't rack aperture too much mid shot. Anyone else had this problem? Could it be symptomatic of additionally coming difficulties? if it doesn't affect my use of the camera is it worth sending the lens in for?

I just checked mine, and although I've done almost nothing with it so far, there's no noise whatsoever in performing what you're having issues with. Best keep an eye on it and see if others report an issue.

Cheers,

Noise changes when racking aperture during video...more of a whir less of a click, but still there. Also noticed a dull whirring whenever the camera is on...very very very quiet...like a laptop fan (but REALLY quiet.) Didn't notice this in first two weeks.

If I sound ignorant, it's just that I don't fully understand from your descriptions. Describing noise in text is a tricky thing!

Does it do it when you're actually recording? Because the kit lens definitely "clicks" through the apertures when you're in preview mode. It's a totally different beast when it's actually recording.

Is it possibly the OIS? Try turning that off. It makes a noise in operation too, as I'm sure you're aware.

Hmm... I get a "click-whirrr-click" when I power on and off. And there's definite clicks when changing apeture while not recording. I didn't notice these sounds the other day. Happens with and without IS on.

It's still silent when recording, though.

Cause for concern?

I recall getting clicks just about audible on playback (in other words, recorded by the mic) when I recorded in a very quiet room. But with mine I haven't considered it a problem as such.

Same thing as above poster, click and whir on startup, etc.

Anyway the clicks aren't louder than the click of the control wheel (if you're not dampening it with your finger placement) so should be fine

Ah yes, the back of the manual, where they tell you not to store the camera in a paper-bag or drop it. Thanks!
