KiPro SDI & AF100 - What am I missing?

I have a shoot tomorrow and will be using the KiPro with the AF100.
The HDMI signal reads fine, and I'm able to record - but regardless of what I seem to do when I hook up the SDI output from the AF100 the KiPro tells me it detects no input on the SDI.

I've confirmed the SDI output is putting out a signal by hooking the cam directly up to the SmallHD monitor via SDI.

I've tried every recording format, gone through the AF In/Out menus ... my assumption is the issue is on the KiPro end (which unfortunately I'm not as familiar with).

So - anyone with some experience with the KiPro have any ideas?
Worse come to worse I know I can go HDMI... but I'd rather go SDI if I can.

Thanks for any advice.

I believe there is an option in the ki pro to choose the hdmi or sdi input.

Sdi is the default i think, so perhaps previous user set it to hdmi? It's in the config menu....

It was on SDI when I picked it up and no dice - thats when I decided to switch over to HDMI and double check it, HDMI works fine... went back to SDI and still no signal.
Hm. I'll fiddle with it some more in the morning - and worse come to worse I"ll just go HDMI.
Ah well.

Can't think of anything else...unless you had it on the correct sdi input...not the out right?...I'm sure you thought of that but ya never know!

Did you try a factory reset?

You're right - you never know. But no, I double checked that.

No, I haven't. I suppose I could give that a shot.
I may do that in the morning - though given that my shoot is tomorrow morning, and the HDMI is working fine, I'm tempting to not mess with it any further (lest I lose both SDI and HDMI somehow).

Yes! Don't screw with what's working!

On a side note: It's pretty handy to use the web interface...a lot easier then navigating onboard. I've got a little netbook that i've used.

Good luck with the shoot!

One last thought...there is an internal video test signal, is that off/black? I don't have the ki pro in front of me so I can't say if that would be it though...item 41.2 under config.

That's at least something new to check out - I'll check it first thing tomorrow (gear is packed up now and ready to go).
Thanks for the tip -

Just another obvious thing that might be overlooked... you do have an SD card in the camera right? I've read elsewhere that it won't put out a signal to the HD-SDI port unless it's recording to a card internally.

Well, I had a card in the camera, but I don't think I was rolling on it.
But I hooked up my monitor via SDI and it had no issues with the signal regardless of whether the camera was recording.

You can always contact AJA Technical Support; assistance is free of charge and they are happy to help. They can be contacted via phone or email.

Short of going through all the camera menus and all the Ki Pro menus, it's hard to say what the reason is that the HDMI would work but not the HD-SDI...

AJA has a Panasonic AG-AF100; it works fine with the HD-SDI output when used with either the Ki Pro or the Ki Pro Mini.

Did you try chaining the Ki Pro after the DP6 just for the heck of it?

I did - and that's what actually wound up leading me to the solution....

here is a lesson (reminder) for everyone .... ALWAYS start with the most basic thing in the chain and go back from that, regardless of how unlikely it might seem.
So what was the problem?

A bad SDI cable.
Once I switched out the cable it worked fine.

I never thought to switch it out because it was brand new - literally taken out of the sealed package and hooked up to the KiPro.
So, actually, two lessons here - test the most obvious thing first, and if you buy a cable from anywhere make sure you test it before your 2 week return window expires.
:)

Just glad you found out :) I've had my share of bad cables, and that does include an SDI cable as well. While the connector is VERY robust, it can still have problems!

That literally happened to me today.... fricken cables.... was going insane. Thought my DP6 was broken.....
