King Kong

This film has raised the bar on SVFX. WETA just may have put ILM behind them.

When you guys see this Giant Ape you will not beleive the gorgeous detail

I didn't like the movie,

The pace is to slow I never wanted a movie to end so mutch.

And what the **** was that Central Park scen plus that heart bull ****.

The beginning until Kong kills T-Rex is good execp the scen when Naomi starts to ****ing dance and do her show perfomence. Who does that when they are take away buy a gaint ape.

John,

You are absolutely correct, the ape is phenomenal, the best I have ever seen.

However, it makes me wonder why so many of the other effects feel subpar, the pole-vaulting natives and the brontosauraus stampede for example.

My theory is they simply rushed it out the door for Christmas (which is a shame).

Still that ape rocks!

Chris

Yes yes

I had reservations with the Pole Vaulters and would have preferred the old school native arrives by skiff action. TRhe bronto charge was not only so far over the top but at times looked cartoonish and some of the composites when they are walking/running rhough caves looked off.

(We just have to look for that dont we?)

I saw the movie with my wife.

About 10 minutes into the film, there is a shot of Jack Black looking through a glass door and behind him he sees Naomi Watts reflected in the glass.

My wife leans over to me and whispers, "Nice shot". A second later she realizes how I have ruined movies for her and whispers, "I hate you".

Still, I was very proud.

Btw, the opening day box office results are in... and they don't look too promising. $9,7M... compare that to 40mln of Spiderman 2 or ROTK's 34mln or even this year's WOTW $21mln (all three were released on wednesday too)

Nice stats Vic

To be fair Spiderman and WOW were released in May/June when the kids are all out of school. Return of the King is the only one in that batch that was released in December and had a built in fan base to boot.

And on 3,703 theatres! Even Fellowship opened on 3,359!

I'm showing Kong at $10,030,000 on 2812 theatres (Are numbers still coming in or is this accurate?).

$34,000,000 for ROTK ? Compare Two Towers at $26,159,972 and The Fellowship at $18,214,211 respectively.

Yeah... I say screw stats. Let's just see how the weekend turns out. This movie deserves to be HUGE

I thought there was some incredibly cheese dialog.

The dinosaur chase sequence was like a half an hour. We were all lauphing really loud when they starting falling, genious.

The bugs were creeping me out. We were all like PJ was telling the VFX super "no I want the bug to go in her mouth. LIke actually in her mouth"

The whole movie was a greenscreen shoot and the locations were really convincing. Some of the boat composities were lacking and the edges started to stick out. The water looked pretty convincing.

I liked it, but it was pretty damn long. I didnt' get home until 2 AM.

That's awesome.

The beginning dragged. Some of the action sequences were too long.

There was very little NEW in it. Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Lord of the Rings -- it was as though they lifted scenes from those and jammed them all together.

The New York scenes, while they looked great, were simply unbelieveable. The Army isn't going to shoot Howitzers indiscriminately at apartment buildings. It's not going to send planes to shoot 20mm holes all over the Empire State Building. This isn't a Superman cartoon . . .

And what's with Ann Darrow running around in December wearing a sheer stage dress and never so much as shivering once? Maybe a little visible breath? Then she climbs to the top of the Empire State Building, 1200 feet off the ground, and there isn't so much as a flittering of the breeze? Not to mention it would be twenty degrees colder up there?

And the score was . . . was there even a score? If there was, it was the least memorable thing I've ever heard.

I expected more.

I thought it was . . . OK. But I was far from blown away.

I doubt I'll even buy the DVD.

Though I did like the in-joke -- that "Fay" is busy doing a picture for RKO.

(and to think David is going to be producing one of my films one day; lol )

Anyone catch the Dead-Alive reference?

Well, maybe I'm being a little too harsh -- the bug valley scene had my skin crawling . . .

But even then, some kid picks up a Tommy gun, a kid who had never fired one before, and hits only the bugs when Adrien Brody is flailing around? A Thompson ain't the most accurate of weapons to begin with . . .

You're nitpicking over small plausibility points in a movie which is about a 25 ft gorilla falling in love with a 5'5 blonde.

M'kay.
