Kinemini 4K new footage

Few days ago more of Kinemini 4K footage emerged.
The youtube title says rough cut, and it really looks crappy in terms of grade, and lots of the exterior shots around a cafe is underexposed...

To release that video is to shoot themselves in the foot, it looks more like ungraded Log-footage than anything else. I felt like I was watching a tutorial on "how to make things look unflattering."

Now, I like the competition (and I could contemplate buying their camera), but I have to say that KineRaw have been releasing so many lackluster videos of their cameras, that this isn't a new thing and they need to start putting out better stuff. Or better yet, they need to release "finished" products that really shows the capabilities.

Much more useful than the badly graded videos on their site.
It's a raw camera anyway, the only truly useful footage is raw footage.

No Lee, useful is looking at the potential of a cam in capable hands, and useful is stress tests to see what happens when the going gets rough. Color science here seems terrible. How long would it have taken them to do a simple grade? One hour? WHy not do it? Unless it's not possible?

I think that's more useful, to see the range of the camera, than what the big companies usually release that has ultra-stylized editing and even VFX added.
IMHO Log doesn't tell you what the colors are like, or the dynamic range. Yes, the "Log" look can be nice, but to me, it is pretty useless for showing what a camera can do because it basically just looks like its shot with a low-con filter...

I agree. The recent Digital Bolex footage looks a lot prettier. I wouldn't judge the camera just based on this one clip but it definitely doesn't inspire me to run out and get this camera.

I dunno guys, I think you are being harsh.

To my eyes, the image quality, dynamic range, sharpness all look incredible.

Yeah the flat log footage doesn't look as hot as a professional graded sizzle reel.

But I get why they're showing it. I understand they want to pull back the curtain and show the real results from the camera.

And I'd be really happy to shoot with that camera in 4K 12bit RAW for that price tag.

++1

Getting a blue look to this footage I think this was just graded in a strange way. IMO those skin tones look pretty bad but its way too early to tell.

I am sure the Kinemini will look great, you can't judge a camera off of one YouTube vid.

I agree. This camera has a lot of potential. Interested in seeing more and finding out how the company deals with production and delivery.

Holy cow . . . There's a lot of potential in that!

Thanks for the grade.

(That guy needs to get some sun on his legs though . . .).

Most probably them killing the greens in the sensor bias ...shows up in the whites.

Could be solved imo. if they bothered.

Ps. the blacks also have a pronounce shift to magenta

Magenta blacks are probably caused by IR pollution. Highlights are blown out and imo look like a bad recovery attempt in post.

Well, it definitely looks much better with that grade, and some shots actually look nice and the camera seems to perform well on DR by judging the guys face in daylight. Some shots that stick out, like the mentioned boat with magenta highlights and some of the market scenes that are very flat. But now I wouldn't be scared if someone gave me a camera like that and told me to shoot some stuff :)
