Kinefinity new cameras

i just watched that clip, but i wonder if someone can understand at the very end what they are talking about? Rodney seems to tell that there is some motion problem with switching from rolling to global.... could some one plz check what its all about? after 8:40

has anyone used the cam since then? how is it really?

I'm not understanding them (maybe something to do with a multiple/dual exposure system?), but the 5K Terra isn't shipping yet...

Rodney is conflating dual exposure imagery with dual gain imagery and the Kinefinity rep doesn't fully understand his question. Terra 5K apparently uses dual-gain, not dual-exposure. RED cameras have only one single gain amplifier but can do an extra readout during integration (exposure) that allows two images with different shutter speeds to be captured and combined for an HDR effect in post. This has issues with motion because the two exposures have different shutter speeds so your highlights have less blur than the rest of the image, but this is also powerful because it is user-controlled and can create very wide DR. Dual gain amplifier pathways is what Terra 5K, Ursa 4.6K, Arri Alexa, etc use and captures exactly the same exposure on the same sensor but sends it through two different gain pathways that helps overcome ADC DR restrictions which are usually where DR and noise limitations tend to occur. The Dual-gain approach is almost always invisible to the user as the data is usually combined back together very early on right after the ADC stage and even before RAW recording, so there is no user adjustment possible to this process.

Another big difference is that RED's HDRx process can only preserve further highlights, not really increase sensitivity and is not possible to monitor on set, whereas the dual gain process cannot capture more highlights as the full well capacity of the photosites is fixed, instead it helps pull the cleanest shadows possible out of the sensor by removing/minimizing the ADC noise limitations.

they keep making cameras, but I've never seen anyone shoot with them. Like a unicorn.

Like many things it's probably because they are hard to come by. Also because the 5K seems like a sweetspot but has been delayed for a year. Once people start taking chances on them more people will use them as they become more tested and available. Distribution for Kinefinity is a big problem in the US... Who would buy a camera you can't test, see, talk to users about experience with? I might if it makes the right promises but most people would not...

Size , weight, price, codec, media,.... is very tempting of it.
Its seems like its has a soft image then the rest of the cams.... is it some kind of line skipping or noise reduction?

Well I did and so far i'm happy with it. I talked to a few people on the Facebook community who had the kinemax and I played with it at NAB, so I felt comfortable. So far, I would recommend it. I'm in south Jersey if you ever feel like giving the 6k a spin.

Also, they're impressively power efficient. Try running an Epic-W for an hour on the small battery in the side handle :cheesy:

That's one of the best parts to be honest. Since I can run with small batteries, I can keep the weight of my rig down. With sigma 50-100 art on it, the entire rig still comes in under 8 pounds. Also redvolt batteries are the worst :) they lasted me about 25 minutes on average, compared to about 75 for the bp-u's on Terra.
