KINEFINITY KineMINI 4K & KineMAX 6K cameras

Yeah these Kini cameras can't seem to catch a break. No one that tests them seems to cover the color science, the workflow, or shooting with them in a film environment with actual lighting. Hell more reviewers should be testing the in-camera cineform recording, that is a great feature.

That is horrible filming at its best. As usual. Not great cinematography. Or grading, or whatever else. If I were the manufacturer I would demand an apology. Can't they get their cameras into real pros that can do some real filming?

It's not nice to knock people's work, but I was sent a link to that footage and I was really kind of shocked.
I honestly thought I was watching a "before and after" presentation, but there wasn't any "after".

I took 2K raw footage I found online and ran it through speedgrade quick, just exposure and saturation adjustment. There, skintone. It looks great. Kine, hire me for your marketing department, because your clearly have no clue what your doing on that front.kineMINI.jpg

Does anyone remember that one video from last year where the leaves looked like they were literally radioactive? That was great.

Yeah, I've really been wanting a proper review of these cameras for a while...

They don't have a US distributor and the even decreasing price difference between their cameras and something like FS7 negate any motivation into buying the Chinese made equipment. Two years ago, when a decent 4K image was almost exclusive to the high end pro productions, KineMini made some sense. Nowadays, it's an afterthought.

You gotta move fast these days. Especially if you are one of the little guys. Their window is closing (or closed) to have a unique feature set for a low price. And the price needs to be even lower due to the trust issues that need to be overcome.

To be fair, a lot of higher end electronics are manufactured in china these days - especially by Japanese companies...

But I also wonder where Kinefinity's reference footage is.
I was invited to their 6K hands-on, but was actually put off by hearing "6K", when I still haven't seen a
HD/2K showreel with quality content from then.

It seems to be incredible hard, trying to offer what the Alexa has been offering for a while now in an more affordable package, but seems to be really ease to come up with new camera models
"just" raising sensor resolution and frame rate.

Maybe all this complaining about some cameras missing higher frame rates or not looking sharp enough on test charts has confused manufacturers what all DPs I know really want:
Alexa or F35 like (or better) footage from a sub 15K camera.

Of course it's much easier to say, hey, we now have higher resolution, higher frame rates, more codec options than trying to figure out what exactly it is DP's like so much about the Alexa's images;)

You so right. Megapixel is easy. Make camera as good as F35 and Alexa for cheap is much harder. But people want cheap megapixel I think so companies give them what they want. Not me!

Man I still want this camera over the new blackmagic offerings. Only question mark is the rolling shutter in different modes.

EDIT: The new locking speedboosters for Nikon mount lenses are amazing!

If I were BMD, I'd try to figure out how to get the rights to the camera, rebadge it and provide the manufacturing supervision/quality control and the eventual global distribution outside of China. With the given specs, there is easily two-three extra grand of profits to be squeezed out of it.
