Kim Ji Woon's new film 'I saw the devil'

I saw this at the Stockholm fest in November.

I'm a big fan of Asian cinema. Hong Kong and Japanese, mostly.
Can't stand Korean films though. Not a fan at all of Oldboy, The Host or any of the other numerous really popular Korean films. They just don't do anything for me.
EXCEPT Kim Ji Woon's films. I LOVE A Tale of Two Sisters and The Good The Bad The Weird.
I haven't seen A Bittersweet Life yet, but I plan to when I get a chance.

So I went to see this, and was kind of let down. This is a guy who's styles change drastically between films, and this is very different from the other two I've seen. I guess I was expecting something different because of that.
This is like a ruthless Batman vs Joker film without the comicbook dogma and if Batman was really ****ing evil.

Thing is though, since November, the film has stayed in my head and I'd love to revisit it. I think it's matured a bit in me and I'm sure it's the kind of film that gets better and better on repeat viewings so when I find a nice blu-ray I'll definetly pick it up.
Thinking back, there's really a lot of things I like about it.

It's definitely an order a popcorn, sit down with a couple of buddies, and watch a nice over-the-top-in-violence type of movie. No more, no less. Utterly satisfying to see the villain stomped on too, I might add!

Just saw it on bluray. Great film... a bit over the top but like many powerful Asian films, it's blunt, uncompromising and extreme (relatively).
I want to see The Good, the Bad and the Weird.

The Good, the Bad, and the Weird was definitely a cool film. I liked it a lot better than Sukiyaki Western Django. Same style, just much better execution. I'm definitely checking this one out.

Saw this and really enjoyed it, but it was BRUTAL. Every aspect of this was brutal, from the storyline to the action to the emotional and psychological aspects. And especially the visuals... some of the most stunning, unflinching, and striking visuals I've ever seen. The cinematography in this film is intoxicating. The antagonists performance in this film really blew me away (and why shouldn't it? he was the PROtagonist in Oldboy and blew me away there too).

Anyway, highly recommended for a visually stunning, brutal tale of revenge and it's consequences.

Saw the trailer for this on the DVD of Black Death. I own and love The Good, The Bad, The Weird and I'm very much looking forward to seeing this now (though it's clear it's not the same upbeat tone).
