F55: Kill it Sony! 0% financing, no money down!

Wife says no.

But the good news is I received all the bits to start shooting 10-bit uncompressed/ProRes/Dnxhd from the F3 so I'll give that a try and see how it goes for a bit.

You're in for a treat Dennis, 10-bit SLOG from the F3 makes for lovely, rich, extremely gradable images.

I am loving the 10-bit SLog my F3 spits out to my Pix240.

And, to quote QVC, the F5/55 can be yours for just 12 easy payments of....

I already got tempted with the 12 month 0%. I think of it this way-- it's more interest than I earn on my money market fund.

I'm 90% sure I'm getting the F55 w/oled. Would be nice if my F3 sold for over $6K!

My reasoning is that the F55 will be viable for some unknown length of time longer over the 5, and at this point I need to amortize a camera for closer to 3 or 4 years rather than 2.

I think there's a chance that the 55 will be the only global shutter game in town for another 2 years...I think Red would have to go back to the drawing board in a big way to add it to Dragon. I think the next Alexa would be the only wildcard there.

Heads up I just heard from Vince regarding the financing, and it is only available in the USA.

Thanks Sony.

Nothing new... Canada remains an orphan... We bend over any way you take it... But, 0% for 12 months on a sticker price equal to a compact or even mid size car?? Come on! Car dealers are giving loans on 70 months... Jus' saying...

Australia seems to be in the same boat as Cananda then, our dollar is possibly the highest in the world and so far the sticker price is higher than the US. I am not certain but I doubt we will get the zero percent finance deal. If Sony released the F55 at the same price as in the US with zero percent finance I will buy the f55, if not then I am debating the F5.

You will barely remember the F55 in 70 months.

We can work with clients to help qualify them for this offer.

I was looking at the Ablecine website and saw the deposit page, but but that lists the MSRP. Do we know the street price yet? I'm assuming this is going to be something like $2k a month for 12 months. Or is it 0% on the MSRP?

Well, if someone goes by "standards" of this (or any other shooting gear forum) than, you are correct. I find the "real world" outside the www is "a bit" different... People do use "old" imaging equipment. People still use ex1 and ex3 for broadcasting jobs all over the place. Sam goes for F3. The camera is still out there. It is this "gear hysteria" that forces some people to go for newest and latest...

Friend of mine, DP from Vancouver shot the last season of TV show "Murder she solved" ( airing on OWN) on the camera that is at least 100 months old... Go figure!

I do agree - I overstated a little. The first camera I purchased ws a DVW-700 (Digi-Beta for the younger folks) in early 1997. We rented it continuously for about 7 years before I sold it to one of our rental customers. He is still using it TODAY. That is 16 years old 4:3 standard def baby.

My gear ownership reference is generally from owning a rental house where we had no choice but to keep up with the latest. Even back then, the finance companies saw this gear as short term with 0 residual value after 36mos. Even if reality allows it to be a valuable asset far longer - it only matters how the finance people have it classified for the purposes of deal structure. A camera like an F55 has a very high value density - meaning that you can pack the cost of a very nice car into a package that you sling around all day long which also has some impact on how it is perceived by the people on the 44th floor of the financial institution.

Didn't mean to be quite that snarky. ;-)

Street prices are:

F5 is $16,490
55 is $28,990

OLED EVF is $4930
LCD EVF is $3230

AXS-R5 is $5350

That's probably when I'll be able to afford one...
Judging by how quickly the F3 prices are falling off a cliff... you should be able to get one a lot quicker than that!

The main thing pushing me towards an F5 rather than the F55 is the knowledge that the New F7/F77 will be launched before my TV clients want 4K onboard compressed!

Plus I get to keep £8,000 in my pocket for toys.
