Kid's voice from adults...

In the film, "Polar Express"(2004), Tom Hanks is listed as the voice for 6 characters. 5 of the six are 'adults' and although Hanks alters his voice characteristics, and mannerisms, one can still 'hear' Hanks here and there in all of them.

The surprise for me was that he also voiced the 'boy' character.

The question is, what sort of processing would be required to shift a 'adult male' to
a 'boy', and I didn't detect a 'falsetto'... like some 50/60's pop group singers...

Would it involve flitering out bass, and then some form of shift in frequency up to
match a pre-pubescent male voice?... and still maintain some sembalence of 'natural voice'...

Or there other techniques that would do better.

Check out the Boss VT1 Voice Transformer. Designed to do just what you're

Hmm, if you don't mind having an a/c powered unit then maybe something with a built-in signal processor and dozens of variations (like an Alesis Multimix) might meet your needs.

yes? go on... don't leave us hangin' man!!!11!!!11!!!!

Sorry. It's this danged interface with the forums. Hit the wrong button and you lose text activity until you click on the grey box again.

The VT1 is designed to do just what the OP wants. It will alter the characteristics of the voice to change age and even gender. Yes, it's a piece of outboard gear, but there are just some things that still work so very well outside of the computer.

The signal processors in those things aren't designed to do what the VT1 does. We're talking about a completely different processor algorithm (or a set of them) from your normal EQ, pitch shift, modulation, etc.

In addition to the Boss unit, there is also the top of of the line TC Helicon Voice Pro. It's been out for a couple of years, but nothing out there touches it and it has those capabilities and lots more for voice.

TC has taken the current economic mess and has produced a line of smaller boxes that can do parts of what the Voice Pro can do. You might give them a look too.
