Hey everyone. So the man who was going to produce the feature film a friend of mine and I are planning to make (the script is finished) has had some serious life setbacks recently, and has informed us he might not be able to give much of his time to the project.
The big issue this raises for us is money. The producer has a lot of friends, specifically a lot of business owner friends. He's also experienced with going out and getting funding for projects like this (he was the executive producer on a TV project I was working on prior to a bunch of drama). So pretty much my friend and I were going to focus solely on the creative side of the project, and the producer was going to go get us money. The minimum amount we decided on was $10,000 though the more we get the better obviously.
But now that he's gone, we are slightly up a creek without a paddle. This got me to thinking, I remembered people on here had posted projects on Kickstarter before, and from what I remember a few of them even met their goal of $10,000. I think this might be a good route for my friend and I to go but have a lot of questions for those of you that have experience with Kickstarter.
So, for those of you that have experience with it, what would you say are the absolute most important things to do to give your project the best chance at funding?
Is a creative video describing the project or a teaser essentially absolutely necessary?
How important is it that you post your kickstarter link all over the internet?
Is it advisable to ask for more than $10,000 or should you go with a low-end number to ensure you actually get funded?
Also, possibly most importantly, if you have direct experience with a kickstarter project please give me your story. How did it work out for you? Would you go to kickstarter again? Is it a waste of time? Anything you would do different?
