Kick A** Settings

Can some of you DVX masters be so kind as to share some of the settings you use to achieve your awesome film look. I'm a humble DVX apprentice with 100a and a 16:9 adapter...

In another thread I read that the 100a with all its splendor can look like crap in the hands of the wrong person... I don't want to be one of those people. PLEASE help me by posting the settings you like(and use) for shorts and feature films. I really want to get off to a good start.

Thanks to all,
Trey

Re: Kick A** Settings

theres no magic settings..
its all accomplished through framing- composition- lighting- aspect ratio choice- camera operation- editing- and color correction/enhancing.

Re: Kick A** Settings

Settings change so many times during the course of a shoot. Like IAL said, there is no magic setting. The knowledge of what the settings do comes with experience and experimentation.

Re: Kick A** Settings

I wouldn't say that I'm looking so much for that "magic setting" that's just going to do everything for me, but more like a good starting point from which I could experiment... Such as someone stating:

"I like the look I get when I shoot 24pa - have the gamma set at X, and crank the color temp up to X..."

and with a brief description of why would surely help... I'm willing to learn and experiment so if you could point me in the right direction (even a book recommendation that covers what these settings do I would be open to) but I would like to shoot some stuff half descent in the mean time by using suggestions from savy DVX users.

Thanks
Trey

{shameless plug}

You asked for a book that explains what they do. Go to http://www.dvxuser.com/articles/dvxbook, in there I have detailed descriptions of what every setting does, as well as an accompanying DVD that shows the effects of the settings, as well as a "cookbook" for menu settings that delivers certain looks that match most of the looks from Magic Bullet Movie Looks.

{end shameless plug}

Correct exposure is overrated... do it in post.

I'm kidding! Do the right exposure. :P

Re: Kick A** Settings

Honestly, the 'best settings' will look like crap with the worst lighting.
But the best lighting will still look awesome with the 'worst settings'.

Just my two cents...
