and here is the thread that I started which explores the issue of a pad cable from the H4N line out to the GH1 input further

I read the two threads you referenced. While some posters did suggest a splitter with an attenuator, others suggested the more traditional 'clapper', including one suggestion of using a spoon hitting a glass jar, to sync H4n sound to video.
In those threads, mention was made of using an attenuator to plug into the H4n to the GH1, and then with the added requirement of wanting to monitor the audio, which necessitates the use of a splitter in the situation of wanting to travel
light while shooting a wedding.
This probably explains why I haven't seen too much about this sort of hook up... I'm not in the wedding biz any more, and probably would not use a GH-1 for such an event, or if I did, I'd limited the situations to either one of MOS shooting, or use
traditional visual clapper and audio recorder synching. About 10 years ago, I did shoot a couple of weddings with some 'accent' video using a small Sony Handy cam. Another photographer that I knew, made a rig so that he could mount a similar
small handycam type camera and buckle that to his still camera. But for both of us this was for 'accents' as opposed to full blown video coverage.
I'd probably spend the bux for a 'real' video camera at this point for real wedding coverage.
But that aside, are you using both the attenuator and the splitter? Or just the splitter? Is there some indication of what the splitter does in terms of attenuation?
