Kevin Smith's Too Fat to Fly!!!

I don't know but I'm assumng Kevin got on the next flight that he had two tickets for and made it to his destination?

Kevin is going to have fun with this and I'm sure his side of the story has a lot of additional meaning added to it and he's loving it.

The pilots wouldn't know who he is (unless Kevin mouthed off to them and told them but that would still be after they kicked him off) so we can rule out them disriminating from not liking his movies.

This makes me want to join Kevin's twitter page and start a conversation about why I think fat people should buy two seats at a movie theater.

I don't understand the point of allowing a 'wider' person to purchase two seats in the first place if the two seats are not next to each other. Otherwise, what problem are you solving by allowing them to purchase an extra seat?
Again, there is no fixed assigned seating. Inherently, that second seat is wherever the purchaser wants it to be. All he has to do is pick a spot with two empty seats, and claim the second one as his. And it shouldn't be difficult, if someone's so big that they're required to buy two, most passengers won't pick that empty seat anyway.

The problem arose because Smith flew standby. He had bought two seats on his original flight, but then decided to get on an earlier flight. So he was the one of the last ones on, and there were doubtful two empty seats together, so he took up one (even though there might have been another one elsewhere).

Yes, I know... But, if you are later getting on the plane, those two seats are not likely to be together... I guess, some people can shift around or whatever... Just seems that would be a bit embarrassing every time you get on a plane :)

"This seats taken" "Sir, there are no assigned seats" "I bought this seat" "Why?" "Because I'm fat"

I don't have a problem if they have this policy, and I'm sure he was aware of it. Only thing is, they certainly seem to be selective in their enforcement of it as referenced by my example earlier. I couldn't even put my tray down all the way. I didn't complain though. And, neither of them got booted for being too big.

FAA standard weight for aircraft certification is 170lbs per person, buying two seats averages it out. It makes sense when you think about it although his fat rolls will be on the next guy :)

i love when people blame the 300 pound fat guy, instead of the real culprit...the plane. if the engines didn't have to carry that other 800,000 pounds then maybe they wouldn't struggle so mightily with the fatso sitting in the window seat.

Jay and Silent Bob.

Along with ths guy, note how skinny Kevin looks.

Well some poor guy who needs his job to feed his family will probably lose it because movie director with a big ego and a not so healthy diet got his feelings hurt.

Right. He says he knows the policy and he says Southwest didn't follow their own policy.

Well hopefully they all work it out.

They're not going to fire Gate Agent Suzanne or anybody else over this. But, you know, if they have a policy and their gate agents aren't following it correctly, that's something that the airline would likely want to sort out (And a person who can't/won't do their job correctly probably doesn't deserve to keep it anyway. Just because a person has a family to feed doesn't mean they get a free pass to break company policies).

Smith's supposedly final take on the matter:

It's OK. He just bought a private plane ( wide-body single seater ) !

From SW's own mouth quoted on CNN, not Smith's Twitter or Blog:

"Southwest admits it erred by asking Smith to leave a flight for which he was already seated."
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/showbiz/2010/02/15/snow.kevin.smith.too.big.to.fly.cnn

It's also came out that the pilot did not ask for Smith to be ejected. He asked for the crew to look for any safety issues in preparing for flight. And someone else made the call claiming that the pilot specifically asked that Smith be ejected.

Smith also meets SW's own criteria. Seatbelt fastened. Arms rests down.

So ... SW admitted it was wrong. Pilot never asked Smith specifically to be ejected. Smith meets their standards.

Did you guys hear his audio interview where the word NOT is over emphasised to the point that makes me want to ***** slap him. Talk about being over dramatic.

Do movie theaters make you buy two seats if your fat? They should.
