Kevin Smith's Red State

I didn't really enjoy it. The first 15 minutes were great then it went no where. With all the hype he put behind this I expected it to be way better. The premise was good, but he missed an opportunity to do something great with it.

And I agree with Billy about the ending.

I think I found this in the horror section on Netflix. No fore knowledge on it. Saw KS listed in credits on Netflix and that got a raised eyebrow but changed nothing for me overall.

Thought the movie was going to be a horror flick in the first 25 minutes, but then things really changed... I agree that some scenes went on WAY too long, and that there were some missed opportunities to make this much deeper than it was. Meh, gave me something to watch while practicing my guitar.

Yeah I felt the same way, it just seemed like "Is that all"? Especially considering he was touring with it and charging $60 a ticket. I paid less money to see Crispen Glovers film, and slide show tour which is far more entertaining than a Kevin Smith talk (although he's a better talker than filmmaker). At the very least it was nice to see a Kevin Smith movie that actually looked like a real movie, and there was some nice acting by Michael Parks in the film.

SOme interesting bits, but overall, I mirror what the first reviews were saying back when the RED STATE bid fiasco thing happened-- just kind of fell short.

This sounds weird, but it also felt really bland? Like, a lack of overall polish. No real distinct voices, etc. Most interesting part to me was when the SPOILER: horn started goin' off from somewheres, and at that point I hoped for some demonic stuff to start occurring but it didn't happen. And, that's not me going in with expectations, because once the killing started happening I figured that was the kind of ride it was going to be: crazy people kill other people.

But, that would've just helped me say "okay that was cool" about it.

Also... did anyone get the sense that the director/writer (Smith, of course) had been watching a lot of Breaking Bad before hand????

This movie looks terrible... like literally, the visuals.

Doesn't even look like there was any post magic done on the DSLR footage...

I guess it's because it's a Kevin Smith (recognized name) movie that I feel it should look a lot better.

Yeah, I also was disappointed in the look. Over all, I am glad I watched it, but I really was expecting something with a little more, I don't know... style maybe. Michael Parks is great in it, so that helps. Of course he is great in everything I have ever seen him do.

Just got this through on Blu-Ray... looking forward to it, even if nigh on everyone I know that's seen it has called it a 'disappointment'...

Saw this at the video shop, only copy, snapped it up and just finished watching.

It started off well and I even didn't mind the long Michael Parks speech. The movie lost me with all the gun fighting though. TERRIBLE editing! No intercutting between bad and good guys made it feel very disjointed. It kind of really ran out of steam around this time. Think if a second of the original three boys in peril had a running story line the movie would have meshed and flowed better.

Acting was excellent all round.

Note: I am truly, madly, deeply in love with Kerry Bishe. Why isn't she getting a tonne of work?

I should say it sounds like a bad review but I'm still glad I saw it.
