Kessler Pocket Jib Traveler

Also check out the iFootage M1..... same design as the aviator, but can carry more weight. and only cost 295 pounds in England.....

Gotta admit... while the iFootage also can carry 10pounds, the design of the Kessler does beats the iFootage due to drag control and build in counter weight. I think I might have to try this one out....

Well, the Aviator is lighter and shorter when folded, and goes just as far (6 feet). The only advantage load-wise is that the Kessler can take heavier cams, which is good of course. The other thing, is that the Aviator comes with a fluid pan base, so it's ready to put on a tripod etc. - does the Kessler come with anything, or is that an extra cost you face?

My dream jib would be: full extension - 9 feet, folds down to 2 feet (I have no idea how!), weighs no more than 5lbs, and can take 15lbs load... probably not realistic :) But what I would like about it is that you could use it in a small room (which is what you can do already with these two; but you also get a little bit of extension on exteriors with 9 feet...

I like the design. I hope they make a big brother using the same design, scaled up to a larger size and perhaps double the load capacity. 10lbs or so is my target but I'd rather be in the middle of the load range than right on the edge. Although being a reputable company like Kessler I expect this can probably handle a little more than rated.

Problem with the M1 is that they've apparently had some issues (perhaps with manufacturing) because it isn't available and doesn't have a price any longer.
That's all been removed at gearcontact.com

I just wanted to amend this. I saw that they're now available on ebay.
When I spoke with them as recently as last week they were still unavailable and they recommended keeping an eye on their website for availability of this and they're "steadycam" both of which we're interested in for backcountry work.

But now the Kessler is looking great for a light travel rig.

295 pounds is about $440 U.S. at today's exchange rate, which is not that cheap... I mean, the Aviator is $50 more, but it comes with a fluid pan base, and wouldn't you pay another $160 for a Kessler? The value proposition just isn't there. The only head to head competition in this space is between the Aviator and Kessler - they are slightly different for a similar price, but at least they are somewhat comparable, and both are likely "quality" items.

Kessler products are top notch.

Hey Dusty, I'm curious what you think about the Edelkrone slider vs the Kessler now that you've had it for a bit.
I've got to get a new, small steadycam, slider and jib setup for a second unit (all light and carrying GH3s.)

Even though the difference is only a pound or so difference, I'm really attracted to the carbon fiber approach for the jib.
But I like Kessler's stuff too, including an 8' jib we got a while ago.
Love to get other working opinions as I've got to decide soon.

Yeah, if the Kessler was available it could be great for run and gun.

You can't get better products than Kessler offers for the price. Honestly, I'm not really using the Slider+. It's a cool idea, but I'd just go with anything from Kessler. Plus, Kessler has FAR better customer service. Buy the pocket dolly instead of the Slider+. I really want this traveler jib in a bad way.

Dang!! I like that Aviator jib. A lot lighter than the Kessler Traveler. I could see both coming in pretty handy, even with the c100. Was pretty sold on the Kessler, but I like that the pan base is included and they have some pretty good examples of it in use on real sets and commercials unlike the stock Kessler product videos available for most of their products. The shots look pretty good to me.

Also wanted to say that while I like most of Kessler's products, I don't understand why they fill the Traveler Jib videos up with timelapse shots and stuff that are not done on the jib. Kind of puts me off like they're trying to convey that they shot timelapse from that jib...

Though I normally like Kessler products, that traveler jib looks a bit too lightwight and flimsy to me, even for a DSLR.
But for the new breed of DSLR shooters, the main argument seems to be, that it fits in a backpack.

On an other forum, one guy just told me, that changing the hight of his tripod drives him nuts, cause it slows him down so much.
