Kessler motion control is amazing - see mainstream label music video here:

Comments welcome.

To my knowledge, this is the first time Kessler gear has been used for moco (not time-lapse) on a commercial set.

Jib is riding on dolly tracks, all of it pre-programmed so that a single actress (the singer) is replicated many times in a dolly/jib move. Even the focus was moco - although at F11 it's not always obvious.

Moco is very difficult and time consuming to set-up and shoot, but is also addictive.

of course it makes it less valid...get real.

I notice this reaction only occurs with a negative review. If I'd said I loved it and it was a compelling music video no one would have said, well your opinion is not valid because you don't make great music videos would they?

I don't think you need to be a Chef to say something tastes bad, but your mileage may vary which is fine. If people are offended because I didn't leave a positive comment, my apologies.

Robert posted a video and said 'comments welcome'. Gillvane posted an honest comment, complementing the model and scenery, but expressed an opinion that the video was boring.

If Robert only wanted only positive comments, he should have said so.

Rather than challenge Gillvane, I would have expected Robert to ask Gillvane why he thought it was boring. After all, that's the point of posting and asking for comments isn't it; to get a public reaction and learn from the comments? What's the point in attacking a perfectly honest comment? Why not learn from Gillvane's point of view?

As to my comments about the video, I have none to offer as they apparently are not welcome.

The videography was nice but didn't like the concept which was not very engaging. Disclaimer, I am not a professional music video maker so value my opinion accordingly.

when comments are solicited, constructive is the hidden word. I could say the previous couple posts sucked...but that wouldnt be constructive. but because I dont really care, I wont elaborate. And thats the point.

What shots needed the moco rig? Generally you only need moco for shots that need to be repeatable like VFX work. Nice production value, and some lovely ladies.
Anyone can be a critic, but not everyone can be a constructive critic who is supportive of his fellow artists.

Some nice shots there Rob. Good job. I'm not going to deconstruct you video, but in general, a little more energy and sex appeal would be a benefit. My music vid credits include, Eric Clapton, The Cure, UB40, Spice Girls, Madness, Neil Young:-)

Let's see your work Gilvane. Any links? BTW - that is all just one girl - most people understand that. She's not a model, but the singer.
wait a minute...It said "Comments welcome" right? If ya can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

I think the video "looks" cool but after a while I lose interest. Technically you did an amazing job but the video does in fact get redundant. WHy take offense to the criticism? Look at the likes and dislikes on the youtube. You gonna go ask all the dislikes to see their work?

By the way. You're a better DP than I am. But this photography would have been better suited as a still photograph for an album cover or promotional poster.

Usually comments have a certain expectation of decorum and basic kindness - they don't have to be positive by any means, certainly not as far as I'm concerned, but I think many here do expect they will be somewhat constructive and at respectful. This is a creative community and that's how people generally try to behave in a creative community - You can get openly aggressive about equipment, but someone's work is another matter. That said, I didn't bash him, I asked him for links to his own work, mainly because I was curious to see what his own aesthetics goals were. If they were the same as mine then I would take his comments differently than if his work was mainly documentary for example, which would tell me he was into content, and that form for its own sake didn't interest him. I wanted to learn more about where he was coming from with his commentary.

There is only one woman, the singer, repeated via VFX. I take it as a compliment you couldn't tell all those girls were composited. :-)

I have no problem with your comment - it's a totally valid opinion - and I appreciate your taking the time.

DVX user is not youtube - it's supposed to be a creative community of people working in the field. The implied rules are different. You followed them with thoughtful words I can agree with or not, but which are respectful and potentially helpful.

We went on an unusual vibe and tact with this one, partly because the target market for this kind of music is actually women, not men, and European rather than North American. A few not altogether scientific test screenings had that group liking it a lot. Men here in North America less so.

Is that really true? That you did all that? I'm jealous :-)
