The Herc will carry about anything you could throw at it. Crane + heavy cam, no problem. Nicely constructed. It isn't a fluid head, but would get you by if that was all you had with you.

I believe it's rated at 150# (probably very conservative), and it's not a fluid head, just two monstrously beefy chunks of aluminum.
 
Good point! It is a common misconception that the herc is a fluid head. When you look at pictures of it, it is immediately obvious that it is not a true fluid head that contains cartridges suspended in fluid. However it is supposed to feature pretty smooth pan and tilt and some variable drag...
