K-Tek Zepp is amazing!

I got my small one for $250, got lucky but I e-mailed K-Tek because the foam tips were popping in. They immediately gave me their UPS account to ship it back, and within 2 days I had the new model and the full length version with the better shock mount for only $20 more!

I'd say that the Rycote has nothing on this thing other than the fine cloth and about $400 more on the tag!

K-Tek's new design is strong. The cage is plastic but it doesn't buckle at all making it easy and fast to switch mics thanks to it and that they did away with the troublesome foam tips that pooped in... the new ones don't go anywhere...

A MUST BUY!!!

I think it retails for $300 but the longer version with the better mount might be $20 more.

oh ok... well then buy the small one and mail it to them... heheh they only charged me $20 for the upgrade

the medium one that I had before is all you need really... but my old medium was the old style which wasn't too microphone switching friendly and the AT 4073 didn't fit

not yet but Location Sound has the older Lectro 400's for $50 and will take $45 maybe $40 for them so I will rent them but if I get this gig I will be looking to pick up a set or two soon...

So the new KZep has done away with the foam end caps? And they upgraded you for free? I ask because I recently got one of the ones with foam endcaps used and while it works great for me, I sure wouldnt mind upgrading to the new one.

Thanks

Well no, they didn't do away with the foam caps, but they are a complete different cut which doesn't slide in even if you push them in hard but they do slide out easy. The main thing besides the caps is the cage... it is much MUCH better... and the $20 that I payed for my upgrade to the big size which is completely worth the money just for the different shock mount alone!

So YES, the upgrade to the new model was free for me.

And the $20 was for the Large version instead of the Medium that I had.

oh wow I do like that redesign on the plastic cage much more. I'll have to look at my foam caps and see what the difference is, I just dont remember what they look like. They do slide in with a slight push though so it must be the older style. I'll have to shoot them an email and see what my options are. Thanks for the pics those help tremendously!

You are welcome! You guys help me all the time, that's the least I could do!

The shape is now achieved by a cut. The portion that makes contact with the rubber rings is now a right angle cut making for a flat surface contact instead of a re-shaped piece which was more of a curved indentation.

If you can push it in with a slight push then YES, that is the old one...!

The cage is WAY sturdier! The constant fear of bending the cage is now GONE! I was so worried about even leaning it against a wall since I don't have a stool/pole holder... this thing is strong! And you can expect mic swapping to be 200% faster!

I am also very happy with the shock mount... the older one would not hold the medium shotgun straight as it would tilt down a bit, but this one is much better!

Cool, the time it takes to swap mics is my only complaint and its a small one since its rare I swap mics in the zeppelin. Glad to know they've resolved it though. My shockmount seems to be the normal KGPS and does a fine job, although I have the "medium" version - is that the size you upgraded to?

No I had the old-style Medium version with the mount that had two thick arms coming slightly down to either side as opposed to the four "rubber band" types going in four directions. My AT4073a would tilt down so the tip would be about 3/4 of an inch from centered, it also wobbled quite a bit.

I upgraded to the new-style Large version. Straight and no wobble that I noticed.
