JVCGY-DV300U better then DVx100???

I am hoping for a discusion about the pro's of 700 TV lines of resolution.... or whether the other aspects of the DVx outweigh that.

It doesn't record 700 lines. They may be rating the camera head at 700 lines (and frankly, we don't know what the DVX camera head is rated at) but the recording format is inherently limited to 540 lines. No DV camera (not a $25,000 SDX900 shooting DV) can record more than 540 lines, it's a fundamental limit to the recording format.

The DV300U has been praised as delivering a very nice picture, but it got blindsided in the marketplace by the DVX. While its 60i picture is probably comparable, the DVX's unique features were 24p and 30p, and the DV300's unique selling point was that it could be a webcam. Well... guess which one the market embraced?

If you want an interlaced-only 3-chip camera, there are some good reports about the JVC. But no, it will not record higher res than a DVX.

Thanks for the reply....

Yes I know that the cameras do not record more then the 540 lines (if that).... But, just as the low end broadcast DVCam cameras
(Like the Sony DSR-300 shooting DVcam on a MiniDv tape)

don't record all those lines... they still can scan 800+ lines and then toss out those that are not needed. But you can see that the quality of the output is far better then those of the DVx100. The DVx100 comes much closer then previous pro-sumer cameras though.

The reason I am asking is that my father-in-law is looking at buying a video camera and is not concerned with shooting film or 24p... just normal video but he wants it to look as good as possible. Personally I've got the DVx100 original and like it a lot. I'm thinking that the 100b output is going to look even better... and am trying to convence him to look at it. But he thinks the 700 lines of extra definition to start with will make the end picture look better then the DVx100b.
