I am considering purchasing the JVC HD110U for shooting HD weddings. However, what I understand is that in order for me to shoot the highest quality of this camera is shooting 720/24P. If I shoot that way you get the stutering effect as you zoom or pan with the camera. If I shoot HDV-SD60P mode; Am I only using 480 lines vs the 720 lines of resolution?

Thank you!

Yes, HDV-SD60P is standard-def vertical resolution, but 60 progressive frames per second. So it's not really SD, it's more EDTV.

In HD you can also use 30P, which you may find preferable if you don't like the 24p stutter.

Yes, the 30P is much better and I like it MUCH more than any 60i. After using the Progressive Modes, I never want to use Interlaced formats again. The HD200 series has 60P as well, which is optimal for "Realistic" looks, but at a higher price.

I have never used it, but there is an option on the HD100 series called "Motion Smoothing." Basically, the Camera shotos at twice the frame rate (60 for 30 and 48 for 24) and then discards half the frames when put to tape. When this mode is enabled, the frames are comined. On playback, this creates smoother motion although many do not seem to use (I never have). If you demo it, it may be worth a look.
