Markus, if You are interested in a comparison 1080i vs. 720p, register at www.film-tv-video.de (it is free) to read the corresponding article (look at the download charts on the left side). In some situations 1080i is the better choice, in other 720p.

The JVC shouldn't be noticibly less sharp than the Z1. If it is, there's a number of things to check, like back focus etc. Or you might just havea duff camera - swap it for another and see if it's just as bad or not.

Ditto what Graeme said. My HD100 was very noisy and dramatically softer than anyone else's. I'd recommend you download the EIA1954 res chart and shoot some test shots, and then compare against the charts in this article:

Are you using the Redrock adapter on the HD100 or just your Z1?
