The anti HDV is all BS and hype.

People take the HDV scenarios where it was Implemented *incorrectly. Sight those situations with slight of hand while detracting you from excellent performing HDV acquisition*technology..

. HDV progressive is good. I would preferrer a 4:2:2 HDV, however HDV 4:2:0 in a progressive capture is far and above 4:1:1.

Here is a quote from a white paper on HDV.

{ So an HDV image encoded at 25 Mb/s (IBP) is roughly equivalent to an I-frame image-encoding of about 60 Mb/s. So, when comparing two compression schemes, remember that the higher bitrate version may not necessarily provide the better image quality }

Here is the link to the HDV white paper on HDV.

M.Pappas,

You're quoting white papers from my neck of the woods. Good to see you're doing your research. It is true that once the m2t transport stream is captured into Liquid, it is redered/fused in 1 of 3 ways. Either MP@HL MPEG2, or RGB-AVI, or Uncompressed 2VUY. For the film work I've done, I use Uncompress 2VUY which makes all cuts, FX, transitions and color corrections uncompress to 2VUY (8 bit) and essentially makes the timeline I frame. It's misunderstood and misreported about how the HDV can be edited. If the HDV is uncompressed then it becomes I frame. HDV's "on tape" IBP quality depends on the camera's hardwired codec motion estimation. In the case of the JVC HD-100, they spared no expense on the codec and it was derrived from thier extensive experience with MPEG2 broadcast encoders..

Anyway, are you coming to the Chicago show? We can discuss it more in person...

I read the article weeks ago and its interesting that he glued the lens on with Gorilla Glue, and fell in the water with the Camera. Dried the Camera out and it keep's on ticking.
