Just what the heck is this?

Just shot an entire feature with the FS 700 with few issues, until in the final edit this crops up . Is this the dreaded black pixel fringing I keep reading about? it's visible on the menu, the light fixuture top RH corner and one other spot. Only two other spots in the feature where this crops up (always shiny reflections). Never saw it in several months of editing, until now. I was able to get rid of it in one place by going back to the original file, which leads me to believe it is some kind of post production digital artifact. Any ideas?

Not sure if it's the same, but, I've seen this in After FX when importing 8 bit data to 16 bit color space. It's an artifact produced in AFX and isn't on the original footage.

It reminds me of how the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera had the highlight issue where clipped whites turned black (I believe they fixed it in a firmware update). Maybe something in your NLE is doing something similar?

HMMMMM- I'm using FCP 7, seems like the problem would be rampant! Really strange, been using FCP for 7 years, never run into this.

I don't think this looks like the edging issue, it looks like a superbright clipping problem somewhere in your pipeline (especially if taking the whites down solves it). Are you able to take the same source file into other applications to see and compare? Is it AVCHD or something else?

cheers
Paul
