Just Screwing Around

Testing the camera, proving that I actually have one, playing with Vegas, pissed off at Val, avoiding cleaning the apartment...and showing that if you blow out the highlights during filming, there's no coming back.

[not there anymore...bandwidth considerations]

Would have made it a .mov, but I can't figure out what settings to use.  This 10 mb WMV shows up as an 87 mb MOV.  That can't be right...looks like I'm off the the Vegas and Compression sections.  :(

Re: Just Screwing Around

That was Ok. You can cut out about a minute of that and it would still have the same impact; the shot with putting the cubes in the glass took too long IMO, for instance.

In Vegas, when you Render As, select Quicktime, click the custom button, select Best, click the video tab, and there is a dropdown for video format, select Sorenson 3, and use something like 240 frames for every keyframe.

Re: Just Screwing Around

Hmmm...okay. Those settings knocked it down to 40 mb. :) Guess I have some more playing around to do...

But, hey, that's how one learns, right?

(Although, honestly, I never did like MOV files. The player drives me up the wall...)

Re: Just Screwing Around

another thing to consider with Vegas is the default Frame Size on the video tab is NTSC DV (720x480).  You can pull that down to 320x240 to make a smaller file (and window)too.

On the audio tab you have the ability to compress the audio.  I have had success with IMA 4:1 at just about any setting.

Maybe we will continue this discussion in the Vegas or Web Compression forum....

I enjoyed the flick.

Re: Just Screwing Around

I hope that you shot yourself when you were done. It was terrible!!

Re: Just Screwing Around

Jigmic, it needs a little bit polishing but your comment was harsh dude. I would love to see some of your work. ;)

Cheers!

Re: Just Screwing Around

Oh, don't be silly. It wasn't meant to be any good...hence the post's title.

I don't imagine I'll have anything worth watching until at least Christmas.

Won't stop me from screwing around some more until then, though. :D

Re: Just Screwing Around

It was a simple test and for screwing around I like the idea that you tried something a little creative in a story way. I'd like to see a shorter cut that's all.

Re: Just Screwing Around

I may redo the whole thing sooner or later. With an actor, rather than me hitting the red button, jumping in front of the camera, shooing the cats away...

Re: Just Screwing Around

That comment was harsh, particularly since I've seen much worse here!

Great first little flick! I liked it, yea it was slow, but I still liked it. It was relaxed, and suddenly it got real serious. Liked it! If you sped it up too much, it would ruin some of the effect.

Comment: Yea, the blown out background was kind of cool at the end, but I would have liked to see it less blown out, and then let it go white once the shot goes off.

Great start. The camera is sooo cool. Looks filmic. Liked your logo BTW.

Re: Just Screwing Around

I was only kidding. I would never seriously put down someone else's work. We all are creative in our own way.

Now you tell me. Anyone know the antidote for digitalis? :(

Re: Just Screwing Around

loved the idea.  Keep the audience guessing and you get that "ohhh i see" feeling goin on in the audience.  But then your extremely slow pace brought it to a screeching hault.  Kill Bill can eek along at 2 mph and have me at the edge of my seat, however for a short you might wanna reconsider.  also consider changin up that good ol still camera cinematography.  Do a matt mcdermitt or "man on fire" approach and show quick flashing dof shots of the ring slipping on, really blurry memories flashing in and out.  Experiment and expand upon what you have, but keep it moving.  that goes for the camera and the story.

Digitalis: Gives you a heart-attack. Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain,
diarrhoea, headache, and slow irregular pulse. Also sometimes
trembling, convulsions, delirium, and hallucinations. Its difficult to
take a fatal amount because vomiting usually gets rid of it.
You don't need an antidote.

Anymore questions, Dan?

Re: Just Screwing Around

wow... And I'm still trying to go through the freeze up I have after you get rid of the ring. Your server have some weird sense of humor...

When I see people mixing a bad whisky with a terrible soft drink, I kinda give up talking about it... ;D
