..duh? that someone has resort to that. I would be surprised if this guy got any business that wasn't totally bogus.

I would also be surprised if he were any good/not a student.

You can tell that all from one little flyer?
Judge not.

It could be worse. It could say, "Will edit for food", written on a piece of cardboard in the hands of a destitute editor standing at the top of a freeway off ramp. At least the above person can still afford printer ink, paper and staples! They also have at least a little bit of interest. Of course, when putting out a flier like that, most folks will tear off two tabs so it looks like there is at least some interest in what they are peddling.

well I think Justin's point is, is that if you're a savvy professional, you're more likely to look for work in traditional freelance streams. Networking, sending your reel to post production house, job websites, etc. And those that are new and don't really know how to connect might just advertise in a random less effective sort of fashion like here. It seems a little bit on the amauterish side. Maybe, who knows, maybe he/she is a real go-getter when it comes to advertising and they want to cover every base. I'd be curious to see what kind of work could be made from it.

@Justin, did they include a website?

@ Blade--quite so, sir.

The picture was from an excellent blog, The Editblog that I have in my RSS--I just clicked on the picture and then used that link, should have provided proper credit. (Editblog posts some great links by the way)

So if you click that link you will observe that this was taken in Venice, California; I guess you have to take into account the glut of talent of all kinds in California. Regardless of that, from the POV of a client looking for a talented cutter, I probably would not hire this guy. If he gets any clients from a flyer there's a huge chance they're going to be Clients from Hell, people who just want to take advantage of how desperate he apparently is that he's posting home-printed flyers on telephone poles. I actually considered doing the same thing myself (if that tells you anything about my own current situation) when I saw the picture, until I thought about what that communicates and the type of people you're going to attract.

I wouldn't judge the skill of that particular person advertising on telephone pole/bulletin board/craigslist, I just feel bad about how many bloodsuckers are going to try to take advantage of him/her.

Or that person was just trying to be clever thinking no other editors have tried this method. Here we are all talking about this person who, if they hadn't posted that on a light pole, we'd probably never even know of :) Granted, if their info was on there it would be a little better for them, but still, kinda cool when you think about it :)

Job market is super sketchy right now. not surprised or sad about anyone else's efforts to find work especially since I'm grinding too. Gonna take that flier idea to Williamsburg, post a few up. I'm sure some hipster will try and hire me as an editor/animator, aka an "intern" for a new project by some award winning director. maybe I'll get a stipend for the train.

:D

Alright, alright, I'll take it down.

I swear. I post one or thirty little fliers and it's all, "non professional" this and "technically littering" that.
