I just received my RODE NTG-1 mic today and hooked it up and mounted it on the HMC-40 with Panasonic XRL adapter and I must say that the mic is absolutely amazing.

It picks up voices from MANY feet away and rejects a lot of off-axis ambient noise and voice. I think this mic will be an excellent companion for my coverage of the anime convention next weekend where I will be video "taping" interviews, industry panels, masquerade, ect.

We'll see how it performs and I'll let everyone know if it does the job well. So far, so good but the real tests come next weekend!

I'm borrowing one of these from a friend to do an interview on Sunday. I'm hoping that it's a lot better than the MKE66 I've been renting recently.

NT Rode 1 mic ...

NT Rode 1 mic ...

This is an excellent mic ... I've been using it on a number of cameras for the last 2 years and love it.

just did a side by side comparison of the Rode 1 and Sennheiser MKE66 this weekend and the Rode was hands down the more pleasant, fuller sounding mic. I was astounded by how nice it sounded.

You bet -- I've been using one for years. I got the NTG-1 originally for my Sony HVR-A1. That's the one thing I transported from the Sony onto the HMC40. And while I had some issues with it being too loud on the Sony, it's practically made for the HMC40.
