Hi Everyone! I just purchased the EVA-1 after using the GH line for many years with my production business. Mainly I do corporate videos, testimonials, live streaming, and wedding films. Very impressed so far! I'm trying to find all the best tips/tricks for this camera. I'll be using it with an Atomos Ninja V. I use an FS7 at my contract job so I have experience working with Log.

So far I've read that:

1. You need to set the audio from -60 to -40 to avoid audio distortion with condenser mics.
2. V-Log clips at 92 IRE and Skintone around 55 IRE. Is it best to set zebra 1 at 55 and then Zebra 2 at 91? I've tried to find video tutorials on this and haven't seen much on Zebra settings.

Any other tips/tricks for the camera that I should be aware of?

Thanks!

Curious, how much did you pay for the used EVA1? There is another discussion going on parallel to this at the moment and I am curious, if you are willing to share.

1. You'll be best off testing this, I do remember having some confusion with the XLR input settings with how they were labelled. But I now record into a MixPre II regardless.

2. Zebra settings will be preference and will follow general advice on how you prefer to set them in regards to optimal skin tone range and clipping, but that sounds like a reasonable setting. Note that as you are using it with a Ninja V I believe you have false color on that unit IIRC and can use that to determine your skin tones as well, so you may wish to adjust your zebras wherever you find them most useful.

I actually don't have too many tips on the camera, except to say I appreciate using the SWIT batteries with D-Tap to power my external screen to keep the weight down. I also found a Black Pro Mist 1/8 filter to be pleasing to my taste for many use cases if you are using sharp modern glass in conjunction with the camera.

Have you downloaded Barry Green's EVA-1 guide yet?

Congrats!
I was an early adopter and still love mine, but there are some things that are quite different that you'll want to get used to.
A few of them (off the top of my head):

Get used to using the Home button and using it to access a number of common settings.
If you're not used to shooting with a dual ISO camera, shoot some tests to see how it works best for you.
White Balance selection isn't with a hard switch - so this takes some getting used to -- but you can save/edit a whole bunch of white balances - which can be really convenient.
Try out the 'green squares' on-screen focus option -- it's different than peaking. Sometimes I use one of the other - depending on the shoot. (I like the squares when there's a lot of movement)
If you camera didn't come with the wi-fi dongle, get it! It allows you to control the camera from your tablet or phone -- which is great when the camera is mounted high or on a jib.
Get an EVF if you don't already have one. (I already had a Zacuto EVF) The LCD screen is not made for viewing outside - too shiny - -- and I never felt it had very good color.
I shoot primarily in Long GOP (150 mbps) -- but I always recommend to the editor that they create and cut with proxy files.

The camera creates wonderful images. I never found it cut well with the FS7 (the EVA1 footage always looked much nicer!) - but I've used it quite a few times recently where it matched the FX9 beautifully.

I paid $3860. That included:

Panasonic AU-EVA1
2X Core SWX Nano-VBR98 Battery with D-Tap
1X IDX SL-VBD96 Battery
1X Panasonic AG-VBR59 Battery
1X SmallRig Top Plate
OEM Charger
1X Porta Brace Soft Cordura Case for AU-EVA1 (This lets you keep your camera built inside the camera case

It had 111 hours and from an agency in Mint condition.

congrats, the EVA1 produces beautiful images far superior to the FS7

I found ISO 1600 in 2500 base settings the maximum for clean images. It's not a low light monster
I liked the buttery lut NATURAL Rec709 very much. It's also very nice with the S1 / S1H.
I found Scene2 also beautiful and natural with wide DR. I used it for ready to edit hand over
It cuts also nicely with GH5 CineD

Be careful with the audio as you already mentioned. -60db was totally unusable for me.
The audio clips and you don't see that it clips in the audio meters.

Happy shooting!
