Just purchased a RED 17-50mm lens for our F3

in case you are ever interested. you can get that lens re-housed to 114mm instead of the crazy gigantic size it is now. makes it easier to find a mattebox that fits it. be warned, it takes forever to get your lens back. but it is nice.

great lens though. I have used mine in a lot of crazy places and it keeps on ticking!

A lens like that is definitely on my shopping list for my F3 too!

By the way in your blog you have a typo, you said "RED 17-55mm".

that's very interesting. Have you had yours re-housed? Would you have a picture of it at all? Thanks, Sparky

I just got mine cleaned and rehoused costs about $250. it took just over two months to get it back. but in the end, its totally worth it. the lens is the size of a normal lens again. I can try posting a pic later.

Red does the re-housing and it will look like the 17-50 they currently sell. I take it they had a lot of complaints about the non standard size of the front housing, so they are offering the option to have the older ones re-housed.

What size is it before getting it re-housed to 114mm? Sparky what size is your 17-50mm now? Also do you have any clips zooming? Would love to see that.

That lens lives on my F3 most of the time. It's not the best/sharpest but is a great range and looks good.
BTW, it's not even CLOSE to the 18-50, which pales in comparison. :-KnockedOut(D

All I can afford to use right now is the f2.8 Tokina 16-50. For around $700 bucks it is the best money I ever spent. Its not perfect, but not bad either. (yes some of the cheesy lens flares are cheap added fake ones)
