Just ordered my Mac Pro!

Yeah, bit of a bummer... oh well, if I had kept the order and they'd brought something out I'd be kicking myself, it was only a $40 saving, so I can live with that.

Are there likely to be any more announcements over the course of WWDC? I heard they were gonna update their monitors, would that have simply been announced on the first day? I can wait the extra couple of days, but if there's no point I'll order it tomorrow.

Just order it bro... seriously, it's gonna take a few days to ship on the OFF chance they do announce something else. (They're not releasing anything else til the end of the year though according to a very reliable source)

Well my 4Gb of RAM from OWC just arrived - those heatsinks are ENORMOUS! So I've been smiling and giggling about the house, then ten minutes later what turns up at my door? The 20" Apple display that I ordered with my Mac Pro but is sadly destined for my dad's desk. He's out of town for the next couple of days so I'm going to test it for him!

I can see now why people pay the extra for the Apple displays - this thing is gorgeous! Only problem is it makes the rest of my old PC peripherals look butt ugly.

...now I just need the actual computer and I'm in business!

Maybe, but optioning it with the x1900xt means it'll take three weeks to get to me rather than a few business days. :( Though I read on the apple.com site and on quite a few websites that the cards run REALLY hot and if you're doing lots of gpu intensive work (playing WoW seems to be the main culprit) they eventually burn themselves out completely!

Now I don't play video games much anymore, but does anyone have any experience of this? It's pretty much solely responsible for me forking out an extra $350 for applecare.

Any word on whether the ATI X1900XT will be replaced by a card that doesn't run as hot? Or would a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB card be better? I'll only be using one large monitor to start out with, and get a second one later on.

I was thinking about running the card on a macpro w/ Two 2.66ghz dual core, and using FCS2 and After Effects 7.

I wouldn't be doing any gaming on the computer, just editing hd p2 footage and possibly some compositing/effects work.

G man Im running a quad core 3 - from what I read its not a big difference from the 2.66. I did get the Radeon card and gave it enough ram, at this moment im on 6gb. The thing is a little superstar om fcs2. Though Kaku's 8 core made me a little envious :S

Thanks for the reply, ncje. Do you find that for editing and effects, that the ATI card runs too hot? I just don't want to invest in a card and have it burn itself out-I won't be doing any gaming on it.
