Just lip service

Well, I'm trying to make four kids sing doo-wop. I've prepared one child's picture in Photoshop by creating six different mouth shape layers: rest, pmbv, lstn, eh, ah, oh, ooh. Then in AE I nested a precomp of these layers (one frame each, sequenced) together and time-remapped to change mouth shapes.

After getting the timing right, there's something missing. Perhaps the figure needs more movement; I've used the puppet tool and it helps a bit but I'm wondering if there's a certain something that really sells it. The eyes? The whole face? Hands? Focusing attention on something else?

Try to make them blink even if its an eyelid layer you turn on / off or scale or quick wipe on and off.
Try some head bob with the intonation/ to the beat or even a slight body sway.

I've done a few animatics in my day. Moving stills is easy, Bringing stills to life is much harder.
