GH5 Just installed High Sierra and it STILL DOESN'T HAVE Quicktime Player compatibility ?

Come on Apple!! Why is it so hard to support 10 bit GH5 files in the finder / Quicktime player? I've just installed High Sierra with high hopes for this and STILL not working? Previewing files via VLC is fine, but isn't as convenient and on my laptop doesn't work at all.

Wake up Apple / Panasonic - lets sort this out!

I wonder if 4K All-Intra 10bit 422 @ 400Mbps will be supported in Sierra or High Sierra, testers do you know???

Yeah, you'd figure that would be the time to do it. last night.

Sadly ALL I 400 doesn't work in the FINDER or Quicktime Player either and definitely so far plays back WORSE than 150 IPB. I thought things should play better as its All I rather than IPB??

Realistically, why would you expect consumer gear to support a high-bitrate professional recording format?

You have a point. But while I wouldn't expect QuickTime to support proprietary formats, QT has traditionally been used to underpin many other applications, some of them professional. That may have changed by now.

IPB should play perfectly sequential and since the bitrate is lower the decompression is easier and also the file is smaller which will burdon the disk less as well.
The problem with IPB is only random frame seeks in an NLE, but for editing that is obviously rather important.

Unfortunately there are so much misconceptions on the internet about IPB encodings.

I'm talking about Mac OS X's finder (and hence Quicktime). It can't playback any 10 bit files, still. VLC can on my higher end machine, but can't on my MacBook pro.

On top of that FCPx and Premiere are a very mixed bag when using the new formats, but hopefully that will come in an update.

Its great having these new formats to play with on the GH5, I just hope that Apple supports them at OS level at some point.

Until they (Apple) get this fixed my solution is to record everything 10bit to my PIX-E5 and Pro Res HQ. The SD Card in your camera can be a Back up. If theres a bump in the road, don't keep driving over it...........go around it.
