just had to get my internet reactivated after going over the cap

Looking for a woman
i knew they limited usage on mobile phones, but i didn't even realize there were caps high speed internet at home. has anyone else run into this problem before?

i tried to get on netflix (probably the reason i went over the cap) and i couldn't log in. so i went to the computer and couldn't get on the internet. there was a message from the isp that i had to contact them to have it reactivated. it looks like in the future i'm going to have to pay more to get a larger cap or they'll drop me as a customer. it's not like i'm running some piracy ring from my basement, it's mostly from watching hd movies or playing some video games.

Where do you live? I know in Canada, they were talking about imposing government restrictions on individual bandwidth usage or something similar. If my ISP did that to me, I'd send them a nice "F**k you." letter and take my money elsewhere.

georgia. i knew they were screwing canadians, but i didn't realize they started capping usage in america. i checked into it and the other internet provider in my area is doing it to. with movies and games moving towards download vs. physical disks, this is going to create problems in the future.

I'm in Ontario. Currently, on Bell and Cogeco, it's your bandwidth contract limit. Anything over that is 1 to 1.25 dollars per gig, which is fair I guess, up to a maximum overcharge of around 30 or 40 bucks. I've yet to hear of anyone getting disconnected over it. That seems like an extreme over reaction.

During the day here they put download caps (throttling) on various PeerToPeer sites but otherwise it's fine.

I'd hate to see cancellations become the norm.

I'm in Canada on Telus. Never had a single issue, and I watch netflix constantly, and upload and download HD files for work. But I have the fastest connection they sell, which is 25mbps down, 3.5mbps up.

3.5 up? On their fastest plan? That's crazy, it's always upload speeds that get my teeth gnashing (usually on deadline). But they don't track upload bandwidth, do they?

But yeah, I've never heard of anyone being booted off...

Yeah, the A in ADSL means asymmetric, so upload isn't as fast as download. It's better than I had previously, which was .5 up. But verizon fios in the states has a 25 up and down plan, which I can only dream about.

.5??? Yikes! Any more asymmetric and the Earth would tilt off axis...

I have FIOS dreams, too. But they don't serve my neighborhood... :crybaby:
