I don't have my HVX yet for the Merlin - but man if presentation is anything - I am so psyched to use this bad boy (I was a Steadicam Jr Junkie).

It came with it's own little foam filled carry bag with killer rubber gripe, a certificate of authenticity and a little CD to teach me all my Merlin magic.

Honestly - It looks f**king sweet!

I bought the Merlin a few months ago for the HVX200. My camera is still not here. The Merlin looks like a fine tool, but it will be interesting to see how it handles the HVX200. The HVX200 weighs a bit more than the Merlin said it could take (although they recently said the Merlin can handle the HVX200).

The Merlin is a visual beauty (we must both have the limited edition version), but some of the screws and hardware seem a little flemsy -- I'm afraid a screw may fall out. Hopefully it will work great and hold together!

Merlin and HVX200 users should keep posting to list tips/tricks once we get both the Merlin and the camera up and running. It looks like the biggest trick is balancing the camera. That will be the key to making it work well. Good luck and keep posting!

Also, the DVD is great. The inventor of the steadicam seems to be an awesome guy! I'm a huge fan of the Shining.

Agreed and ditto on the Shinning. Let's compare notes. If it works anything like it's little cousin - than it should be AWESOME!

I'm really interested to hear how well you guys do with the Merlin and the HVX (and with the DVX too..) Also once you get good settings down, be sure the to share them at the online cookbook too: http://www.merlincookbook.com for others!

And yes, Garrett is an awsome guy.

- Mikko ... looking forward to reports and footage.

Yes, please post some clips when you have the time. I'm on the verge of a Mini purchase for fully outfitted HVX / DVX handheld and vehicle stabilized work.

It would be good to know that the Merlin isn't just a little undersized for the stock HVX / DVX for faster set-ups.

i've had the merlin now for a few months, using the dvx100a. I broke my right foot so i havent been able to use it and i'm so choked, lol. I had my gfriend shoot for a few mins and i watched it on the pc and it looks so smooth, her first try too.
Yes the screws are a little flimsy i originaly had an issue with it but i tighten them up and its good now.

hopefully by the middle of FEb i'll be able to wallk, run and use this gem.

Very much looking forward to user experiences in a HVX/Merlin combo. I was leaning towards a Varizoom DVsportster and Flowpod, but after reading other posts I wanted to hold off and see how the Merlin works out for others. Anyone planning on using it with a vest? The HVX isn't exactly light, but then again maybe I'm not as buff as some of you other guys.

Merlin Steadicam: the camcorder grip for drunks

Great link P.dog!

That being said, here's my obvious boring coment: Drinking and Steadicam operating don't mix! Don't drink and fly!

- Mikko

I'd go a little further: drinking and videography don't mix. I have enough trouble with just a bad night's sleep!

And who did you get if from?...seems all my usual suppliers are still out of stock.

What do you do about the mic-camera connection? I have a Lectrosonics wireless, but there's no obvious way to connect the receiver to the camera. And if I did, it would probably exceed the 5 lb. limit. Is strapping it to your arm an option?

Then there's the XLR cable. Do you tape it down in a known position, so it always affects the balance the same way? Otherwise, it's going to bend and shift the weight slightly each time.

Thanks!

yah so a month ltr and i went to the doctor for xrays and my right foot isnt healing..bloody hell..this is annoying.

dude, i'm a busy person, i cant be just in one spot, lol. Wich sux, but i got crutches and i dont do much...just move from onechari to another while editing...lol.
