Hey all, just about to open my new canon 5dmark11. I wasnt expecting to get it so quickly here in South Africa.... just tryna finish some work and get into the whole thing :)

Any ideas?... suggestions?

Ideas? yes...

Print out an EIA chart on a high res printer and shoot that full frame with your sharpest lens, stopped to 5.6, and post grabs at full size.

Also shoot a large piece of black diagonal on a white background, to give us an idea of what the stair stepping looks like.

Do some work with curves:

Load the Canon software to your computer, go into the area where you can make a custom curve, make a nice gentle curve that doesn't blow out the highlights, and also not crushing blacks. Load that curve onto your camera and shoot a portrait, a hard sky, etc, typical blowout situations.

Take this footage which is preferrably 2 sec clips, and allow us to download the original h264s.

If you do this then we as a DVXUSER team will be able to zero in on the image deficiencies, and help you to improve the mark2's quality DRASTICALLY..

If you need help being pointed to charts, etc, we'll provide links and pdfs...

Ideas? Try this...

1. Repackage the unit. Replace all the original shipping materials and manuals - make sure it's air-tight!
2. Ship the unit FedEx Overnight to Colorado Springs, CO, USA - precise address to be provided.
3. Await further instructions.

Your assistance will be invaluable to the DVXUser.com community, and to me in particular.

:-)

Congratulations! What lenses do you currently have for it? Did you get the kit lens, too? I recently picked up a Canon EF 70-200mm F4 L IS USM. It is an incredible lens, but occasionally the thought that I should have sprung for the F2.8 gnaws at me. About $600 or so more, and quite a bit heavier, 1 stop faster, etc... Anyway, let us know how it all works out!

Suggestion? If you have the kit lens, and a macro filter/lens, (or just an additional lens you could hold REVERSED in front of the camera's taking lens). Maybe try some super close-up video, people's eyes, lips, postage stamps, cat's noses, etc. You know, the usual. Oh, and maybe shoot some LED-based christmas lights, if available - want to see if there's flicker when panning.

Just be sure you've read all the forums here regarding maximizing the image quality of the 5DMKII - a lot of people have already had a lot of experience with this kit.

Congratulations again!
