Just got my HVX! First shots...

Hello everyone.
This site has been so useful for me...and I want to thank everyone who posts and responds. I have been a DVX user for years, and have finally taken the P2 plunge after renting the HVX for a few jobs and really loving it.

So--I have to do the "HVX User Newbie" thing and post my first personal shots.
No big---not too creative or whatever--just wanted to share.
Also--no color correction (a few of these shots I can make better, etc--just wanted to share what I am getting with no adjustments).

Any comments are welcome...again--thanks all. Great scene here.

Lovely shots. Very sensitively composed and lit (naturally, I assume!). You clearly know a thing or two about shooting : )

Excellent work! Especially the mallard , the berries, water dripping from pipe-
must know what scene file/settings you are using and encoding method. Some of the best looking
nature footage I have seen. Your sense of compostion looks like the work of an accomplished still photographer. Am I correct?

that shot of the red and black KOI is Stock footage worthy. you should sell that, its beautiful.

Oh man...when my wife says she likes my stuff I can smile, but you guys are really kind. Approval from peers in the industry...thanks very much!
Ok----some answers for questions:
#1-JesterJJZ: I encoded straight from Final Cut, using flash video (FLV). I'm a bit-rate geek, so I did this pretty high. 2000k to be exact. Motion estimation was set at best. Keyframes set to auto. Then, once in flash--I uncheck the "compress movie" checkbox in the publish settings. This way it is left alone--only hit once during the FCP export.
#2-MainstreetProd: Thank you so much for the kind words. I do a lot of still photography (Nikon D70s) to stay freelancing, yes. And I have been doing it for *ever*...but I know some serious still shooters and am aware that I'm more of a multimedia guy / filmmaker--not an accomplished photographer. Still--thank you very much.
As for the scene file stuff---all I tweaked was the gamma setting to "B. Press".
Barry Green (the kind genius) explains this is the setting with the least noise.
#3. TimurCivan/Ted Spencer: honestly--your comments are making me blush. Thank you!

very clean footage. looks nice and clean.

as far as importing it into flash do u notice your footage looking a little darker than the original quicktime file once exported from flash?

i notice that a lot on my end and have just stuck with qt files on the web. your swf/flv looks bright though so thats why i'm asking.

Great looking footage, very clean. I do agree you have good compositions. It's too bad that the berries surfer from a little of that "primary-color-pixelation-thing"

Makes we want to go to Balboa Park and shot some stuff.

Hey man--I have not noticed a huge difference with my flash exports compared to QT (actually I have found that my h264 can come off a little dull / flat)--but I do ride the bit-rate (with FLV) pretty high. When I have done 1000k and lower, I am not impressed. I did this one at 2000k to really see the clarity, etc...maybe it lies in here?

you know what. i reread your top post and noticed you said you 'uncheck' the compress movie once in flash and that may be where i'm screwing up. i agree with the flatness sometimes from the h264 dullness/flatness. for some reason it always looks brighter/cleaner while still inside FCP.

i will give flash another shot because i do like how you can disable the right click/menu feature so nobody can rip your footage - well, they can, but they need software for it.

your footage is awesome though man. how did you get that shallow depth of field in a couple of those shots with the stock lens?

To: FilmBoy77..re: shallow DOF
It happens by itself when I'm that tight on the subject. No magic there. I do have my shutter fast (250) so I can have my iris open as far as I can. Not on all of them though.

Next will be some tests with my mattbox & a diffusion filter I use w/ my DVX. I am addicted to this BlackProMist (1/4 stop) 4x4 from Tiffen. nice...soft..cinematic. That will bring even more soft shallow DOF.

Very nice; I liked that alot. I know it sounds funny, but they were like moving pictures, as in a still photo come to life. I think the border helps that impression.

I'm impressed there was no cc.
