Just got my GH!

Finally got my GH1; now for the important move to use my XLR with an audio technica shot gun.I tried to get the smaller pin adapter to fit the external mike jack expecting a phantom power from the camera for the mic. There is no power.Am I doing something wrong? Secondly even if I did get power for my mic, there seems to be no way I can monitor the sound.There is however a an auxillary jack from the XLR.Can I hook my earphones from that?

I don't know any adapters from XLR to 1/8" that carries phantom power.
And I'm not even sure the GH1 has phantom power.
 
Seriously, just use the mic on the camera and set wind noise removal to standard and it's fine, a mic on top of the shoe doesn't do that much better, or get total seperate sync sound going.. cheapest route being of course the zoom h4n, and awesomenest route being sound devices 702.
