Hey guys, I'm so excited. Got my 100b today. Its so beautiful. Only thing I'm kinda disappointed with is the zoom. BUT after playing around with it I know I'll be able to get the shot I want. Anyway, what should be my FIRST shooting assignment? I love the work I see here so I know you all can teach me alot :dankk2:

congrats on your camera purchase. always an exciting time...

Just shoot a lot. get barry's book if you don't have it. try out his included scene files. learn as best you can all the different menu functions and play around with different looks in camera.

i'd say dont' worry about shooting anything specific yet. Just shoot a lot, learn a lot about your cam and how to get the best footage you can out of it.

Shoot 10 secs of footage of your cat, capture it with your firewire, do some basic editing, render and export and compress it, to make sure the whole process works and that there isn't anything wrong with the camera (ie firewire)

I agree, the best way to learn is to get out and use it. When I got mine, shooting was the best teacher followed by editing. I'm getting better at it and finding that the camera is easier to use. Also, look at this site often, great advice is here.

and be careful when capturing with ur firewire. If u have a 4 pin pc then its fine. if its 6pin then make sure that both camera and pc are off when u plug in and then power up. This is to avoid frying ur dvx firewire port. Alot of us here (me included) use another cheap dv camera that u can aquire for about $150 to use as a capture camera. Have fun.

Make sure you don't hear anything clanking around inside when the camera is turned off.

:-Laugh(DBG)-1 hahaha

Now that's not nice J.R.

Good stuff silent07!! Have loads of fun - and learn lots with this cam- it's a great tool!!!!

Gosh- I miss my DVX :crybaby:

BTW- do you hear anything loose or rolling around when the cam is turned off???

I second on buying a nice firewire... my first fw was a cheap one and it fried my fw port.

Congrats! Id say just go anywhere, mess around with different scene files and film something :) and white balancing to random colors is always fun starting out.
