I just got my DVX and i'm pretty damn excited. Any way...i just had a real quick question. When i turned it on for the first time and started pointing it around i noticed a kind of click...like something hitting something else...inside the camera viewfinder. (not the lcd) It happens when i pan it up and down vertically. I could also hear it when i plugged in headphones to it. Is this normal?...It may not matter once i have a boom mic on it...but it really bothers me. Its definately coming from the Viewfinder/back of the camera area.

 Oh hey, this could be another great lets-mess-around-with-the-newbie-thread

Yeah, thats confirmed, just the image stabilizer. Although what seems a bit disturbing is that you stated that it happened the first time you turned it on, it should not make any noise when on, just when off:undecided

IT's the Optical Image Stabilizer. There's nothing wrong.
yeah but thats just the original model. They fixed that in the 100A. If your 100A clicks, then you got a 100 with a miscolored LCD door.

Better contact Panasonic.

I Just Received My Dvx100b It Was Broken Too; You Should Check Into It!!! I'd Call Panasonic Before It's Too Late!!!!

The internal lens mount might be broken. Oh, and the zoom lens inside might be whopping about inside, causing scratches on the rear end of the lens. Not good.

If the camera is powered up, it's not the OIS that's clicking unless it's defective. The OIS only clicks when the camera is off. You might want to check with the vendor you bought it from.

Yea, they probably ripped you off. Alot of stores buy them from other companies at cost and rip out the guts. Then replace them with sony and jvc parts. Not good bro!!

no......

I bought it from B&H photo video. Anyway....yes it makes the sound when its on. I know what your talking about when its off too.... but thats at the front of the camera. This is at the back. You can here it the most clear ( i know this sound stupid ) ...when you put you ear up to the viewfinder and rock it back and forth....the camera panning vertically up and down. It is definately something in the viewfinder. When i put the viewfinder all the way out of focus there is no sound...but when it is in focus..there is. Also if i put the viewfinder up...as you would when changing the battery....and do the rocking motion...there is no noise....its def the viewfinder somehow. But i'm not sure what to do about it.

And this is the 100B we're talking...

If camera is on and then you activate OIS does sound go away. Wondering if in B powering camera isn't enough any more and you might have to activate OIS as well?

Just a thought. Otherwise....

Call B&H, see what they have to say about it. I have the dvx100b also and no clicking. So check into it before its too late. GOOD LUCK

Thank you for the advice. I am going to send it back and get an exchange...it just came yesterday...and i have 7 days...so i'll be sure to take care of it in time.

After studying it alot more its definately the part that moves inside the viewfinder when you focus it. If you just leave it where its at it makes the noise....and if you unfocus it...which tightens the part closer to the end of the viewfinder....the noise goes away. Thats still no good though...because then its completely out of focus.

I'd probably use the LCD more anyway....but the clicking effects the sound pickup...and thats not cool at all....even with the attachable panasonic XLR mic.

Once again....thanks for the advice...hopefully i wont have the problem againwith teh new one. :undecided

LOL!

Man, you better stop kidding before someone gets seriously injured. Even though it is quite funny...

Same with me - amazing cam, got it today, so much better than anything I ever used before. My 100B has the same little click/clunk - but you have to move the cam **fast** vertically to make it happen. By 'fast' I mean terrible 70s TV pop effect fast. Is it a design fault? Should I be worrying?
