Just got my DVX. What the hell is this noise?

hi everyone,

I just recieved my new DVX and tested it. There is a strange high pitch sound being recorded to the tape like a metal gear inside scratching something. Please help.

I remember reading in some posts that there is some camera noise being recorded by internal mic but this is way out of range of acceptable... and really annoying too. i can post mp3.

ANy suggestions?

1.is the mic recording volume turened up too loud ?

2.is there and audible noise coming from the tape mechanism whe it is recording and you stick your ear up to the tape nech door?

3. is there a flamingo screeching out high pitch noises that has its foot stuck in the accessory shoe of you cam?

A flamingo..WTF..I had the same problem but found a penquin...

A penguin, Kyle? I had the flamingo myself...

I heard once that it was a special deal Panasonic had for a while...Kyle, how recently did you get your DVX? They might have changed it from the flamingo, or changed it TO a flamingo since you got yours...

Thanks for suggestions. Seems like i was able to figure this out... i checked outside shots and they didn't have any noise.

No flamingos there. Tape mechanism is fine.

So after trial and error seems like the root of the problem is a TV set. Once i turned TV off, sound was gone. Therefore, i tried to walk away with TV and as far as 10-15 feet sound was still there.

I'm very surprised because i worked with a lot of cameras pro and prosumer and this is  a first time i see (hear) something like that

Hmmm... you're saying that you tried to move the TV away from your camera(?). Was your DVX connected to the TV by an A/V cable?

So, are you saying the noise is some type of RFI from your TV... or an unshielded/poorly shielded cable?... or somethin' like that?... or what exactly are you saying?

Kyle had the 'penquin'...  as in "pink one"...  as in flamingo... a pink one.   ::)  ;D

it's RFi i suppose. And it's not only my TV. I was at my friend's house today and had the same freakin noise.

Can somebody try if your camera does the same?
Or i have to change it?

A penguin Kyle? Are you sure you bought it from an authorized dealer?

Panasonic will only honor flamingo malfunctions... but you know those grey market bait-and-switch tactics...

are you sure you arnt picking up Flourecent light noise.. IE are you recording around fluro's?

Sorry, pardon my ignorance BUT aint this just feedback, if you connect your cam to TV via audio and video cable your microphone picks up the sound which is pumped out from your TV and that sound is in turn is picked up from the cam and so on and so on.

Or have i completely misunderstood ge situ?

It is the OIS and you need a new lens assembly.

It sounds like microphone feedback but it is actually something squeaking in there.

It goes away if you turn off the OIS.

I could reproduce the sound by squeezing the body of the camera diagonally.

I took mine in to an authorized service center and they are fixing it now. It is covered by the warranty.

just got it back from "the video clinic" in santa monica.

It is Fixed.

it says on the reciept:

"Noise when OIS is on, diagnosed defective lens assembly"

fixed free because of warranty.

Never underestimate a role of good authorized dealer. After much research i got my DVX from EVSOnline.

My props to them for a very good service. I sent them my cam and DV tape with noise. Now I'm waiting for replacement camera. Hope that the new one won't have this problem.

Other then that, exelent little camera. I love it.

I guess I deformed it just enough to make it squeal.

It took quite a bit of pressure, though.
