Just got my DVX 100A How do I check for usage?

I finally got my Dvx100A. I'm surprised that I feel as nervous as I am excited but there are 2 things I want to check first.
1) How do I check to see how many feet of tape has gone thru my camera as a factory test? I've read some post here saying it ranges anywhere from '0' to a few hundred feet.
2)Is it good to just keep it set at 24p always since I'll only be using it for filmmaking and the 24p is the main reason I got this camera?

1) There's an hour meter in the menus -- check the manual for the A, in case it was moved as compared to the 100.

2) That depends what you want to do. There are many uses for the other settings as well. Whether or not it's "good," in terms of the health of the camera, it doesn't matter.

yea just keep it on 24p or 24PA however you might want to shoot a family event or maybe a paying job and they might not want the film look so use 60i.

Does 24P or 24PA help more toward the film look? I noticed in the manual in the 24P explanation it says "Cinema-like images
can be obtained in this mode". It doesn't say this for 24PA.

Yes. If you're going for the film look, 24p is what you want to use.

30p also gives you some film-like footage which might be easier to integrate with footage from other cameras.

Every mode, of course, has its uses. Don't limit yourself to just the one . . . remember, you have the best damn 60i camera in its class, too.

Thank everyone.

Jubal, Yes I know it's an amazing camera but right now I feel like 'a pair of brown shoes in a closet full of tuxedos'. Glad to be there but more than a bit daunting.
