First of all, this may be in the wrong thread..my b.
hey guys,
Finally got a canon t2i! so stoked, I took some footage around the house and then went on the computer to edit it, and it was very laggy and skipped sections of the clips, very annnoying to say the least. And I basicaly couldnt edit anything,
I dont know anything about computers, except I really want a mac.
But what I have now is
2.00GB Ram
32 bit operating system
Dual core ql-62 2.00 GHZ
Windows vista home premium
and avs video editor and vegas pro 9.0
What's my problem, and is this a quick fix or....?
thanks,
dylan

Yes, your computer is significantly slow. I recommend an upgrade just as well as anyone else.

You could try transcoding your video files and attempting another edit!

Sorry,im kind of a noob. But what exactly is transcoding files?
also, since im only 16 and dont really have a job i spent all my money buying this camera and wouldnt really have any money for a computer at this moment, is there any way to like....Put ram or a new video card in and would that help at all..?
Also, imlooking for a mac but wouldnt be able to get that for a little while... are all macs fine to edit this video file. and if so is there a place to get them refurbished or used for a cheaper price?

All latest, brand-new Windows desktop computers on today's market (except for ultra cheap junkies) should have no performance issue editing Canon DSLR footage. Or for about $1000 (excluding monitors), you can have a super fast, high-end desktop PC custom built for you, assuming you know a bit about hardware (e.g., knowing how to install cards, etc). Just Google around and do some search to see where you like to go. For editing footage (regardless which format), no need to go for a Mac, unless you just prefer the taste of a big Mac.

on the mac subject, i've found some substansially cheaper mac books which are refurbished
such as,
macbook-
13.3 in screen
processer intell core
Speed - 2Ghz to 2.9Ghz
Introduced - 2006
what found be a good, cheapish hard drive, and is 2 GB of ram substanstial?
or basically what are some basics a new PC or mac would need to reach..?

My suggestion would be to update the machine as well.

A quad-core i7 + Nvidia GPU would be at the top of my list for a new machine. They are surprisingly affordable. My Dell XPS15 laptop handles footage from my T3i, 7D, GH1 and GH2 just fine.

link?

I'm in Canada, so I got mine off the Dell.ca site, it's not hard to go to Dell.com and just look for xps15.

I personally prefer the Dell Outlet. Especially "scratch and dent" models if you want to be frugal. Aesthetic scratches that are barely visible, super cheap boxes with regular Dell warranties.

Meanwhile, if you're using Sony Vegas to edit, a simpler solution (and cheaper) might be to use DVFilm's Epic. It transcodes files in the background into a realtime playable format for easy editing. When finished, just flip the switch in their interface from realtime to full original, and it will replace the realtime files with the original full quality ones for editing.
Makes working with H.264 easy enough even on older computers.

Somehow I got to edit my footage on vegas pro9 and I editied it and everything fine, But when I render it( the videos only like 1 minute and 30 second) it took like 1.5 hours to render then when I uploaded to vimeo it said uploading failed. So, could someone give me a step by step procedure on how to do it, becuause clearly I dont know how.
Also, what render setting will have the best video quality?

It's not an exact science, that's why there are so many options. I recommend the sony Vegas section of the forum.

I have an older quad core with 8GB of ram from 2008 and it can edit my HD 1080p 24fps t2i footage, but not at the speed I want it to since I do a lot of effects and compositions. I'm constantly having to render everything before I can view it seamlessly.

I've been trying to save up to get an i7 6 core with 24-32 GB of RAM.

Any recommendations would be great.

In Vegas, try pre-rendering a section of the video on the timeline. I use the DV Widescreen template. See if that section then plays more smoothly for you.

Other thoughts.... Your video footage files should NOT be on the same hard drive as your editing program -- not even a different partition on that hard drive. They need to be on a separate physical drive. Also, check the preview window settings in Vegas. Experiment with different settings there.

What's important is how the rendered video looks. Being able to watch it play smoothly on your preview window is nice, but often not strictly necessary.

The long render time is probably because of your render settings. If you can tell us what they are, maybe we can help.

In what editing application?
If using Vegas, I very highly recommend http://www.dvfilm.com/epic/

Its a lot cheaper than a hardware upgrade, and makes editing buttery smooth.

Ok,so i went to re- edit it because i wanted to make it a quality edit and make it worth the money for the t2i and make the quality looks the way it should
so i re edited it and went to render as
I then went to custom and used these

Audio-mode: CBR
Format: Windows media Audio 9.2
Attributes: 192 kbps, 48 kHz, stero (a/v) cbr
Video
Mode: CBR
Format: Windows medie video 9 screen
Image size:High definition( 1280x720_
Pixel aspect ratio: 1.000( square)
Frames 29.970( ntsc)
seconds per keyframe: 5
Video smoothness: 100
Save as type-
Windows MediaVideo V11 (*.wmv)
Then i get thiss error message
"An error occured while creating the media file: colchester oct. 7 re edit.wmv. The template it invalid.

Why is this!?!
