Just got a new camera - Sony F35

I believe that lens data port is only useful if you use a B4 to PL optical adapter such as the IBE HDx35. Then the B4 lens can plug into that port. In theory there are adapter cables to use a cable adaptor along with the 20-pin connector on a lens like a Fuji Cabrio or the Canon 17-102, but I don't know if this will actually function with the F35 as it was discontinued before these lenses existed.

The lens cable/pigtail on the Canon 17-120 is a standard B4 "ENG Lens" cable. The 20 pin connectors are underneath the grip for zoom controllers, focus controllers, etc. If the lens data port connector of the F35 is the same as on any 2/3" ENG cam, you should just be able to plug the 17-120 directly into it. But you may not need to IF it's like the F55. My 55 provides power, control and communication all directly through the pins in the PL mount. No cables required. But I had to plug into the lens port on the VariLT, because the PL mount only provided power and communication(data), the record trigger had to go through the cable. But it seems like a user should be covered, regardless, as long as the camera has the port.

BTW, anyone knows of a video tutorial series for F35 newcomers (setup, lessons learned, best settings for etc.)? Could be a great resource outside the forum.

I got my camera returned. Posted the camera number a few post back so you could avoid it.

Bought a second one on eBay and it's been great so far

eBay and PayPal almost always side with the buyer. If the camera is not as described you can file a not as described case and the odds are very good you will get your money back. You are probably more likely to get scammed as a seller on eBay.

Good to hear that. I am glad that you were able to return it. :)

The package I am looking at on eBay seems somewhat complete, but I am not sure how well it's functioning.

I must say i am a little offended by your post. After emailing back and forth countless times i have guranteed the camera is in great working condition. I have also offered to make sure you get setup properly even skype to help. Of course if i sold an item not as described i would offer full refund.

What are you saying when you say you aren't sure it's functioning? I have told you many times it is flawless. I told you also i could sent test footage from the camera however i am in Dubai traveling for work.

Maybe the F35 isn't for you? Where is the thread about dead pixels, i have never heard of anyone not being able to fix dead pixels. Every single F35 out there will get dead pixels if not black balanced properly and often. Also there is the menu option to go in and zap out pixels if black balance can't fix. Your obsession with dead pixels being permanent problem suggests to me that you do not understand the F35 enough. Perhaps A7S with warrenty is a better option for you.

Any F35 is an old unsupported camera.

If I didn't already own a F35 I would have bought yours in a heartbeat! Great package! I see it's already sold! Great buy for the winning bidder!

First off, if this was your camera listing...just a quick note: next time you may want to list it under USED -- not new -- as this causes all sorts of red flags to go up and shows amateur hour on eBay. Secondly, I am not obsessed with dead pixels, only risky eBay listings on such high ticket items; it is, in fact, a contract, so it's important to get it right. Lastly, that's correct: you did offer to help -- kudos to you for that -- but I wanted to check in with others to see how legit this listing was; so, don't get your panties in a twist.

Cheers and congrats on your sale. :)

...and no, I don't believe that I'll be purchasing an A7S anytime soon.

Hahaha

Thanks for the laughs.

Yeah im a professional camera operator in hollywood, ca. I have no problem being an amateur ebay seller. I felt bad i had a beautiful camera sitting on the shelf so i listed it. I took it down because now you will spend 10k trying to get a complete F35, i don't need the money for the headache.

Speaking of amateur hour: asking for a video series on how to use the F35 LOL. Seriously i am amateur?

Every F35 owner who learns to make F35 sing is elite and usually has a background of many cinema caneras and usually film experience. I don't think you are off to a good start.

And why are you pretending to not know i am the seller, i sent you message on ebay to pm me here and you did! Do i need to copy and paste all our messages to show you are a fool who asks the same questions over and over!

I love sharing the F35 and i try to go out of my way to help others with this rare camera. Sometimes though you can tell by the questions being asked the person is just not ready for the challenge.

Ok, enough with the Hollywood blow-hard talk. So let me get this straight...you are a winner since you operate cameras for blah-productions in California and foolishly purchase yesterdays camera tech that you apparently can’t sell on eBay for an astronomically low price? Hmmm…

You should have rented your digital cinema cameras; maybe you would not be in a financial bind. Moreover, you are right…I do not know the Sony F35, but at least I am humble enough to admit it. Given the hype surrounding it, my suggestion was out of sheer business sense as it could generate a revenue stream for anyone willing to sell tutorials online. From what you are telling me, it seems like you are not in the business of making money, rather spending it.

Seeing you have officially activated the “blow-hard” button; I do not live and work in Tinseltown , instead, Boston, and have had the chance to work directly with Academy Award winning DP’s, such as Michael Ballhaus and Mauro Fiore, on successful films. Outside of working with these amazing giants in their craft, the other best part was that I did not need to spend a dime on a camera that would end up on a shelf collecting dust.

So when you win an award for best Director of Photography, please, by all means,…weigh-in your creative genius, till then, I'd suggest that you stay away from selling on eBay and stick to operating cameras that sit on shelves.

BTW, I never messaged you directly through the DVXUSER site, so...no, I am not the one who you think I am. Feel free to share the message though – curious to know what was being discussed.

Let's keep it clean, guys.
This is a peaceful place, where we can share tips with each other about old and new technology.

Agreed; I am just not one for being treated in contempt over not owning or having knowledge about a particular camera. That's just silly talk. Anyone should be called out publically for that. With that said, I know how important and helpful this forum can be; having been a long time member since 2005 (lost my original email and had to reopen a new account.).

That is not what is happening, yachacha is one of the most patient and generous contributors on this forum. You have rubbed him the wrong way with the continued skepticism you showed towards is eBay listing despite his reputation and apparent willingness to help and demonstrate the legitimacy of what he was offering. I would have been thrilled to purchase a F35 from him rather than some random person on the net like I ended up doing. If you are not willing to take the risk purchasing from such a respected owner as him then you probably have no business having one. Had I known this listing was his I would have been the first one to tell you to go for it he is a legit seller.

Oh hold hands and sing songs...

Like you, I didn't know it was him selling it: hence why I posted the eBay listing. Please take some time to read my original post about the camera package before jumping to conclusions cause you both happen to have shared some forum love in the past. If you took the time to read it, you would know that my reference to "someone in the community" might be selling it was me seeking out who that "someone" was. Why? My issue was the eBay listing itself...which was listed as "New," not "Used." How does anyone know this wasn't just another high-jacked seller account? Any smart investor will do his/her due diligence before throwing down thousands, and I am sorry you didn't seem to.

"you probably have no business having one." Really? Is this what it has come down to? Sorry, father...I have sinned. Excuse me as I sit in the corner.

While I had a succinct, eloquent and definitive reply that surely would have granted me absolute victory I will resist and say that this wasn't my matter to get involved with and I am sorry if it came off as condescending. It was not him attacking you for your lack of experience but your continued skepticism and repeated questioning that was expressed as his source of frustration, it bothered me that you claimed it was your lack of experience. No past love here, just respect for his time and input in the community.

Victory? I didn't realize we were at war. haha

My questioning was to ensure it was a reputable seller from this community -- hence why we're having this discussion here -- as I wasn't sure it was a legitimate eBay account seeing the camera was listed incorrectly under "New," not "Used."

I've said my share; no más.
