Just got a new camera - Sony F35

Nice image. Holding the highlights in the background while still getting the detail of the eyes and can even clearly read the bounce of the white book pages on his arm. How much latitude does one really need? Color response also nice as all that green clearly could have made skin tone or the clothes go magenta, but they're just fine.

I don't think it will do 12-bit at all externally but I could be wrong. from what I understand, over SDI in 422 you can get 60p max, then in 444 30p max

It does have to have the 9001 board installed though for either of those.

I absolutely love the camera and the image it produces, the camera was what I expected but has exceeded my expectations is a lot of ways. The color from the 3 strip CCD is so much richer that I expected it to be I didn't expect to see a difference from say a raw camera but it is there, ever so subtlety so. But at the end of the day I am just not using it as much because the type of work I shoot normally is more run and gun. If money wasn't an issue there is no way I would even consider selling it but at this time the funds could be put to better use for me elsewhere. My work situation has aslo changed with my primary job having more responsibility so I am not shooting as much as I used to either.

That all makes sense, and completely agree on both the image as well as the cumbersome size and weight factor. It's a beast that's hard to lug around, no doubt. Best luck finding a buyer; with the Codex it makes for a pretty compelling package.

The codex is very nice indeed, I am experimenting with leaving the camera in vari-frame mode as the default setting for it. That way it can be easily changed from 1 to 50 FPS or speed ramping without needed to change settings on the camera, just pick and shoot. Since the codex communicates with the camera I think I can change any of the settings on the camera, choose my FPS, etc... and trigger recording remotely using just the assistant panel which would be pretty cool too.

yeah extra $2000 and you get C30WR and 9003 board.

After my experience with the C30WR the other week, I'd strongly recommend getting a modern HD EVF instead. I could not confirm critical focus with the sony EVF and we lost multiple shots due to missed focus (our lenses weren't properly collimated and the AC's monitor was also less than HD - and therefore not sharp enough for critical focus).

Coming from the new Sony OLED for the F55 I think you'll the older EVF really hard to work with. I did.

That's a good point Mark, thanks for pointing that out. Would it work with existing VF port, or just SDI monitor out basically?

Anyone know why some F35 front plates have this extrusion labelled LENS on it, and some don't?

For critical focusing did you use the magnify function in the EVF?
The C30WR is pretty good resolution wise actually. What's not great is the magnification of the eyepiece, that's why the Otto Nemenz guys did that trick attaching a better loupe onto the evf. I once attached a Zacuto EVF loupe into the sony EVF and holy ****, that was amazing.

I found the C30WR fine for focus, just keep using Mag when needed. The F55 is better in many ways, not in others.

Another "cheap" F65 up for sale on ebay.

You can always trade up to the F65 as many in this forum have. Seems like a deal to me:

then again I'm not in the market for one. Just thought I'd bring it up...

This is only 12 stops? Looks more. Do you light the actors? Look deep in forest so not sure you had sun for bounce. DR looks great. I will post this in framegrab thread.

Yes. This!

Dennis -

yes there are 2 revisions of the F35 front plate. The first has a black PL mount and does't have lens data ports. The 2nd was the updated version with lens data, the port is for a lens like the Cabrio 19-90 that requires a power plug to power the servo zoom.
