Just got a new camera - Sony F35

I'd get the RED zoom. Very useful first lens. Plus 35mm is very restrictive if you can only have one or the other.

Ditto what James said. I'd get the zoom. The optics on the Sony's will be tighter, but my preferred way to shoot is fast, so zooms fit that for me. Both options have ergonomic quirks, so that's a wash in my book.

I'd go with the sonys. T.3 is kinda limiting, and the sonys perform very well. They cut seamlessly with ultraprimes. But the wide end sure is a problem. Personally I tend to rent an Ultraprime 20 mm as backup.

I guess you gotta go with what you need. My logic is you can have the 50mm and move closer to most subject when you need it a bit tigher (yes I know it isnt the same) but you often have a 35mm and can't move any further back.

The Sony lenses plus the GL optics 18-35 would be a great set

I highly recommend the GL Optics 18-35 too if you could swing the cost. It would probably cover you for 60% of the focal lengths you would really need on a daily basis with S35mm. Add either a 50mm, 75mm, or 85mm to satisfy the portrait/telephoto end, and you would be covered for most narrative situations.
I used a RED 17-50mm in the past (version II) while it was sharp, the colors were a little too cool, muted and clinical. the mechanics also felt awful. Breathing was moderate. Bokeh was pretty harsh. The 18-50mm was RED's first version of the same lens, so characteristics might be a little worse. Don't want to dissuade you if it really is a deal, but there's a reason you can find those 18-35's pretty cheap.
The GL lens captures much more pleasing skin tones and is a full stop faster than the RED zoom, which really helps in most situations.

Hi guys!
I've been busy shooting stuff for my short. I did some pick up shots on the F35 and the A7s. And man, still the F35 hast that instant film-look out of the camera.
Hopefully I'll be done soon with this project.

I'm thinking about selling a spare Sony c30WR EVF (the good one for the F35 with the Slog LUT button in it) that I have with long extension cord (pretty useful on certain situations). Before going to ebay I thought that perhaps some of you might be interested in it. Have in mind this is not a cheap EVF though. Send me PM if interested!

Thanks, Periferic! I'll come around to uploading the full short soon. Simply forgot about it in the haze of bigger projects. Anyone got any tips for high vimeo quality? My uploads always look like crap for some reason.

I recorded to a hyperdeck shuttle 2, in DNxHD 220. I've never felt limited by 10 bit, so I'm in no rush to upgrade my recorder setup. I have a hdmi cable going from the recorder to the monitor, and an SDI (or should I call it BNC?) going from the camera to the same monitor. With the push of a button I can switch between monitoring lut and log. Perfect for my needs.

Thanks! Well, the shots are grainy for sure, but that's the look I was going after. The grain is more like film grain than usual video noise, really. Quite pleasing!
I wanted to make the key light (a practical lamp) seem powerless against a cold moon, so I put a lot of ND on the lens and beamed crazy amounts of blue into the room. In real life the whole set was very brightly lit.

This whole thread is like crack haha. Ok I was bored and last few days I read this whole thread again. Very good and can learn a lot about F35 but also very funny to look in the past. Many people contradict themselves before they buy F35, when they have F35 and after they sell F35. Many geek moments, many entertaining moments, many laughs, many great posts about cameras. Good read if you never read you must!
