Just got a new camera - Sony F35

You don't lose anything. Just more to keep track of. The beauty of Cine is that you can treat the camera as a classic film camera.

Ok but having control of wb would be nice in cine. I'm not colorist and everytime wb correction is nightmare in resolve. You know any good tutorials?

I think many colourists might argue that having a DoP constantly fiddling colour temp might not help them. in the "good old days" there was a LL-D filter which you used in mornings or evenings when an 85 would be too strong.

So you say you used filters on lens to correct temperature with F35 like wih film?

I would, yes. I never had an LL-D but I normally used an 85 or 85B on my F35 rather than any digital WB. Anything beyond that I let the colourist do.

I have a dead pixel question. I don't have CCD camera for a long time. Is dead pixels supposed to stay or flash on and off?

They can be stuck on, stuck off or flickering. They are usually bright yellow, I had a couple appear on the F35 while I had it. They are easy to fix. All of our cameras will have them.

Just wanted to say once again that Im looking for an F35 in europe and got a bit more to spend this time around. Would be looking for a nikon-mount aswell.

Hello all, i am new owner of a f35 in berlin, germany. I read a lot here in the past 2 months and took screenshots of the most important posts but now i can't find the post about the powering system that is best for using the camera on a shoulder. Macgregor wrote specifically about his setup - anyone knows where to find the information? We will use a hyperdeck with the f35 and someone wrote a very simple lightweight setup with rods, a specific v-mount plus adapters and other details. Any hint? So looking forward to run this machine soon finally.

Hi Ottowitz,

If you already own a lot of v-mount batteries, the Sony BKP-L551 is what you need. It's basically a 12v battery plate that mount to the back of the interface box and power the camera via the 4-pin XLR connection on the IF box too. To turn on the camera when power is fed through the IF box switch it to CA (same place with on/off switch).

If you have Anton Bauers batteries, the Anton Bauer QRC-SC ALTA is what you need. It's what I personally use for my F35 too. It's designed for the F65 but does come with an adapter plate to mount on a F35 or F23. Abelcine in NYC is selling them for half the regular price. I got two of them just in case.

On a shoulder mount set up you'll want to cut down as much weight near the top of the camera as possible or it'll topple. I find one single 190whr is plenty to power the camera body (with viewfinder attached) and the Gemini 444 in a controlled narrative environment. If you like to treat you back and your shoulder nicely consider a battery belt and add as many batteries as you belt (and your hip) can support.

Thanks dangtienanh, I was looking for that info as well.

What's you solution for powering a recorder, say a hyperdeck or an Atomos from the same battery / power source ?

Get a V lock plate that has a D tap is the easiest way. If you go to Abelcine website and search for the F65 power plate, you can power the 35 through the actual power port and then make a 11 pin lemo cable to Dtap to power out of the side of the F35 body.

I have come up with the best way to mount a hyper deck but it requires taking apart the IF box and using the CA joint and cables to connect hyper deck directly to the F35. Right now I have gold mount plate on one side of my hyper deck, this plate powers the hyper deck internally and then passes the 12v power to the F35. Basically it can be setup so all power is internal and one plate will power both the hyper deck and F35. Requires very light soldering and drilling. I am away from home this week but I will have some photos of my updated F35 to share when I'm home this weekend.

Awesome, I look forward to it! I imagine if I go through with the F35 purchase this weekend, I'll end up doing some crap velcro rigging until I can do something solid like what you've got going on. Wonder how most here are dealing with mounting their recorder.
