Just got a new camera - Sony F35

True that, if it were any other camera I'd probably risk it but not this one.

Edit: Do you think the AC-DN10 will charge non-Sony brand batteries? Seems like the different chargers can be picky sometimes. I own 2 Lanparte 150w/h V-mounts because I'm a cheapskate and it would be nice if they could piggyback and charge while shooting. Thanks Miguel!

What is the difference between two viewfinders:

Sony's HDVF-C30WR and

Sony's HDVF-C35W

which is better??

messing around with Nikon 50mm F1.4 and hyper gammas, these are screen grabs from the camera files.

The 30 is the newest, the one that also the f65 uses. The 35 is bigger and much worse. Get the 30 if you can fibd it or the 35 if it is really cheap.
The 30 can slso control certain functions on camera (like letterbox, slog monitoring) , not sure about the 35.

The 35 came with my camera and it's very heavy, very bulky. I'd like a 30, but can't justify the price. The 35 doesn't control the camera in any way that I've been able to find. I need to get the LCD screen on my 35 replaced- it cracked after getting knocked accidentally and falling 12" inches off a box onto the floor. I was very unimpressed. For as heavy as the thing is it's stunning how un-rugged it is. That will set me back a cool $1500 for parts & repair according to Sony. Right now it's just sitting on my shelf since I just use my Samurai as a monitor. One would hope the 30 would be better because it's newer, but even so...they're both definitely way overpriced for what they do, in my opinion.

I can't imagine we'll have to wait too much longer for the 1080p panels from the new smart phones to make their way into the latest round of SDI EVFs. That's when I'll be picking one up.

Personally I can't bear Noga arms etc... for attaching viewfinders, and I also hate the idea of dragging an SDI cable half-way around the camera, plus an extra battery.

Hence I bought my accuscene, which has been great (for the most part), and when I can afford it I will be buying a Sony C30. I had a C35 with my camera and couldn't make it fit with my lenses on.

I had a C30 in the past, the annoying bit is they are half as good as, say, the ALEXA finder, but twice the price.

Does anybody know if the Sony BVF-20W viewfinder will work on the F35? I know it's just B&W, but I don't use the VF for color anyhow, just framing, focus and zebras. These 20W's can be had for a very reasonable sum out there and if it provides a reasonable alternative I'll use it.

These are from a shoot we did back in May/June and are just now grading and delivering. Used the daylight balanced LUT from Mac, which got me 95% there.

Keith,

The Sony HDVF-20A will work with the F35, but I would not trust anything else. The one you mention I believe is for a different line of cameras.

The HDW-750/F900/F23/F35/F65 all share the same port and by extension, the same viewfinders. There is actually a lot to be said for the black and white finder.

Thanks for the clarification- saved me the hassle of finding out the hard way. The HDVF-20A seems to run $2500-3000 on the used market- more than I want to spend. Looks like I'll buckle down and send my C35 back to Sony for repair. humbug.

I use a HDVF-20a on an F3. The 20W is designed for a SD ENG camera. With the 20a you can nail focus with the greatest of ease. It is a joy to use and one of the best gear investments I have ever made.

As promised, my camera setup - now Mark III.

Integrated the interface box into the plate for my cinedeck. All works fine. I ditched the power and audio options from it as I don't need them.

Very Nice!

So did you remove the innards from the IF Box and house them in the plate that holds the CineDeck? It's hard to see from the pic.

James. I cracked the screen of my Cinedeck and ordered a new screen from Cinedeck, but they just informed me the screens are back logged and I'll have to wait a while..
Do you know of another option to get a screen? surely it is an OEM part they put together and don't actually manufacture their own?
