Are you believing arri marketing? Where you get 7.4? Zacuto test said 6.8 for alexa and 6.3 for F35. This 0.5 is deal breaker? 0.5 is better than having no rolling shutter and having better color? Just confess you want arri name.

I haven't compared them side-by-side, so all I know is that the Alexa can hold burning hot details out a window that no other camera (or film stock) I've ever used can match. It's certainly more than half a stop over the Sonys.
The F35 makes a lovely image, it really does, but it doesn't match the Arri.

What Mitch said. ANY digital camera today has the life span of a fruit fly compared to products from the film era. The death of new stock will end that of course, someday, maybe pretty soon.
While in college, I purchased "new to me" a 35mm B&H 2709.... Worked as an animation camera/down shooter and rotoscope unit until early 2002 or so. If I was so inclined (and I am NOT), I could buy a roll of film, lube the workings, load it up and start shooting immediately. Perfect fixed pin registration made even better by higher tolerance modern film, same shuttle design unchanged as used in optical printers. 100% functional and making images as good as the latest film camera can. Modern optics and new film stock make it completely current.
It's over 100 years old. Serial number 54. Older than Charlie Chaplin's personal 2709.
Art Adams wrote about the novelty of shooting with a 2709 recently, and some revelations about shooting in general that came from the one-off experience. I'm glad he had fun. I had to actually make a living off of one of the damn things for over 15 years.
Here's the sales receipt... I think it was around 1200 bucks, new, in 1914 dollars.

Jim, the way you phrased that almost makes it sound like you bought the camera in 1914!! Impressive for all the wrong reasons.
But you can pick up an F35 and whip pan it around, throw strobe lights at it, shoot from speeding vehicles, etc. It behaves like a film camera in all these conditions, Alexa doesn't.
That said, they both look great, and I would have to disagree that their image will have the shelf life of a fruit fly. I think the best films shot on these cameras are aging just fine.
I caved and bought a shoulder rig for my F35. The Zacuto Universal Baseplate works very well with the F35. I had to flip the rods, they were designed to go below camera bottom not above, but once flipped they reach perfectly to the height needed to align matte box with lens. The rods tuck up nicely against the F35 body and it leaves as much space as possible for accessories on short lens.
The pad is very comfortable and the whole unit is wide enough so the F35 does not feel tippy. To my surprise the baseplate has tripod plate screw mounts in addition to the sony quick release, meaning you don't need the quick release plate to put a tripod plate on the bottom of this baseplate.
I know shape makes a very similar rig, Vocas makes a very nice, and also very expensive version also. As long as you can get the rods at the correct height, these type of 15mm shoulder rigs are a great option over studio 15mm or 19mm baseplate originally designed to work with this camera.
What's interesting is that it was a Panavision Primo show, on the F35's 16/9 sensor; meaning it's a 2x de squeeze blowup to 2:35. And it still looks great.

You are right but is no point. He say he didnt compare them side by side and then discredit zacuto test that compared them SIDE BY SIDE. LOL! Is clear he wants arri name. I guess is cool to say to client I can shoot with arri for you.
Is not only global shutter that is better in F35. Is color too. Funny when he say F35 doesn't match arri. Yes this is right. F35 passes arri. Arri is cmos bayer, LOL. Maybe he didnt see macgregor comparison of F35 and Amira or maybe he just wants that arri name really really bad. I think is the last.

Yes movie is meh but image is fantastic. So creamy and looks like 35mm film. Best film look camera period.

I haven't seen the film but generally speaking Primos are not anamorphics.... there is such a thing as an anamorphic primo but it is pretty rare. I am fairly sure this shoot would have just been spherical primos and crop? There are almost no examples of the F35 being used for anamorphic.
ShotOnWhat lists Panavision Primo Anamorphic Lenses, but who knows.
So does the IMDB tech specs, and thought I recalled some oval bokeh in there when I saw it, but maybe not. The trailer does look spherical.
