I find so many people's complaints with the FS100 to be ludicrous. Often the result of their own unrealistic expectations rather than the cameras "faults".
The few that really irk me:
1) If you usually do run and gun work why did you buy a modular brick camera whose design is best suited to being on a tripod, flyer, or if on the shoulder then in a substantial rig? Is it the cinema cameras fault its not an eng camera?
2) People who expect to pay 5k and get a perfect camera. Sure this camera has some issues concerning highlights and red haha. But it also does a lot of things the cameras it is often compared to can't. If you want a camera that works brilliantly straight out of the box with no effort then by an F3 with the SLOG upgrade, or an Epic, or an Alexa (hang on scratch the bit about no effort).
3) The most infuriating is my consumer dslr took better images right out of the box. Well that may be the case but I have seen a million comparisons between the FS100 and all of the mentionable dslr's and none of them stand up to the FS100 after some time has been taken to tweak it.
If you don't want to learn anything, or make an effort, then I am sure there is a lighting and camera setup that does work right out of the box for you. It will in fact do everything for you. All you have to do is tell it what you'd like to see and it wil be done. Amazing isn't it? If you are really lucky you can pick up one really cheap. They usually go for a lot less than they are worth.
Do you wan't me to tell you what its called? I will...
Its called a cinematographer.
And if you get a good one they will even make you coffee!!!
@Felixger Thanks
Today I have learnt three things
1. Always test out a camera for a least a day before buying
2. Because great cinematographers are producing great images with a camera doesn't mean I will
3. The grass is not always greener on the other side
